Online Poker Costs Scotsman’s Company £2m

Danish firm shells out $591,000 for the rights to Casino.de, the highest price ever paid in Germany.

Tuesday 25th March 2008

Chris Proudfoot, a 25 year-old from Scorguie, Scotland, has been accused of losing in excess of £2m of his company’s money by playing online poker.

Proudfoot worked as a finance and credit controller for HIGHnet, a telecommunications firm based in Scotland. The story, which was covered on majorwager.com, reported a friend as saying:

“The word is that he was playing high-stakes poker online and got himself in too deep. It’s a shock to think that Chris has been gambling away his employers’ money. We never had him down as a gambling addict. He doesn’t go to the bookies in town and we’ve never known him to bet on anything.”

The massive debt was allegedly ran up on William Hill, who made the headlines earlier this month when victorious in their court case with a man who attempted to take them to court of his £2m gambling loses on the site.

When made aware of Proudfoot’s gambling, HIGHnet asked him to leave his job and called in the fraud squad. The exact amount lost won’t be known until police conclude their investigations.
