Brunson's poker tourney raises $20k for charity

Tuesday 18th March 2008

A special poker tournament hosted by poker pro Todd Brunson raised almost $20,000 for charity and featured many famous faces last weekend.

Taking place in the Bay Area, the Leo Brien Foundation No-limit Texas Hold'em Charity Poker Tournament raised funds for Camp Okizu, a respite camp for children with cancer.

Roy 'the Oracle' Winston, Kathy 'Poker Kat' Liebert, Hoyt Corkins, Lane 'Back-to-Back' Flack and Allen Kessler were all in attendance and the event was sponsored by many online gaming sites.

A warehouse with a bar was the venue, into which 20 poker tables were placed and the joint was sexed up with two sports cars.

A silent auction helped to make money for good causes, with a 49ers helmet signed by Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Steve Young raising $1,000, while a poker fan snapped up a piece of original comic art autographed by Jennifer Harman, Phil Hellmuth and Doyle Brunson.

Everyone was a winner, taking home a poker gift bag, although the ultimate tourney victory went to Doug Fowler, who win a weekend in Las Vegas with Todd Brunson, and of course the charity which received all proceeds from the event.
