Online fantasy sports site FanDuel.com has launched its inaugural Fantasy Football Championship that will send eleven competitors to Las Vegas in December to vie for a top prize of $25,000.
FanDuel.com allows enthusiasts to win real money at fantasy sports including ice hockey, American football, basketball and baseball with players able to draft a new team at any time before pitching it head-to-head against another opponent or league.
Players can register to take part in the Fantasy Football Championship up to November 14 with the competition culminating on December 5 with each of the weekly winners joining a single wild-card entry in a one-day fantasy football league competition in Las Vegas. FanDuel.com stated that the eventual winner will take home a trophy alongside $25,000 in cash while the runner-up is to receive $10,000. In addition, the third-place finisher will walk away with $5,000 while the site is set to reward $1,350 to each week’s top runners-up to bring the event's total prize pool to more than $50,000.
“The FanDuel.com Fantasy Football Championship will be an exceptional experience,” said Nigel Eccles, Chief Executive Officer for San Francisco and Edinburgh-based FanDuel.com.
“We're combining the best of our online competitions including the instant-win component that makes FanDuel.com so popular with an in-person showdown featuring huge prizes in Las Vegas.”
For ten dollars, FanDuel.com revealed that players can enter as many teams as they like multiple times over the ten-week span of the Fantasy Football Championship but can only win one place in the final. The eleven finalists will each receive $500 in spending money alongside a return flight to Las Vegas, two nights' accommodation at the Venetian Las Vegas and a special dinner party.
