PokerStars Signs Two More Pros

Leading online poker room had added Marcel Luske and Jason Mercier to its team of sponsored professional players.

Friday 3rd July 2009

PokerStars.com, one of the world’s largest online poker rooms, has announced the addition of two more professional players to its Team PokerStars Pro, taking the tally to 40. Young gun Jason ‘Treysfull21’ Mercier and Marcel ‘The Flying Dutchman’ Luske have joined poker heavyweights including Daniel Negreanu, Katja Thater, Betrand Grospellier and Chris Moneymaker in signing with the star team. A household name in the world of poker, Luske was ranked as the top player in Europe in 2001 and 2003 and won the Lifetime Achievement Award at last year’s European Poker Awards. Known for his stylish dress sense and calm demeanour, he finished in tenth place in the main event of the 2004 World Series Of Poker (WSOP). Luske is joined by 22-year-old Florida native Mercier, who has amassed over $3.2 million in live tournament winnings since his first appearance at last year’s PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. Mercier won the PokerStars European Poker Tour Season Four event in San Remo for $1,372,893 before finishing in sixth spot at the Season Five event in Barcelona a few months later for $324,946. He also won last year’s PokerStars European Poker Tour Million One Dollar Showdown High-Roller tournament in London for $944,847 before going on to take his first WSOP bracelet in the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha competition for $237,415. “Becoming a member of Team PokerStars Pro means a lot to me,' said Mercier. 'I'm so excited to be playing for the site I first started playing on. I feel like this solidifies my standing as one of the top poker players around.'
