Is James Bond the saviour of the casino industry?

Friday 31st October 2008

The release of the new James Bond movie, A Quantum of Solace, has seen many casino operators around the world licking their lips and rubbing their hands in anticipation. Historically James Bond has a close association with the casino industry and the movie releases have often prompted a marked increase in casino attendance numbers as more and more fans try to emulate their hero.

While the latest movie has less of a casino theme, the last Bond movie, Casino Royale, had numerous shots of Bond playing Texas Hold’em and prompted a marked increase in popularity. This is partly the reason you will see a number of online and off-line Bond themed casino games over the coming weeks and months as operators all round the world attempt to squeeze every last penny out of the Bond movie release.

While many anti-gambling associations have attempted to reduce the association between movie stars and gambling, in reality the two have gone hand in hand for decades. The likes of the Monte Carlo casino will forever hold a leading position in the casino industry due in the main to the location and the fact that millions of pounds are gambled each and every day.
