Is 2008 The Year Poker TV Goes Worldwide?

Saturday 31st May 2008

As we kick off the 2008 WSOP event it seems that the media appetite for Poker has never been greater with more and more media companies covering the event. While Poker on TV is not something new, there are signs that it is becoming more of a worldwide phenomenon – not just popular in areas of America. So what is happening?

Many experts in the market feel that the continued growth in the number of Poker players has forced the hand of many media executives who were maybe not so keen on Poker a couple of years ago. Concerned that this may leave a gap in the market for more specialist TV operators to fill, many TV companies have taken the plunge and shoe horned Poker into TV schedules around the world.

It seems that excitement of the tables, the piles of money at stake and the easy with which basic Poker can be learnt is attracting more and more young players. These young players are the markets for tomorrow, the income streams of the future and the media industry has taken the necessary action to attract them to their company.

Now that TV has become more involved in sports such as Poker it seems that the sector will never be the same again!
