Making unread posts easier to find?

Is there any way, either in the current forum version, or with an upgrade, that all new posts inside a thread can be marked as unread by a user when they have logged in?

I know that any threads with a new post appear in bold in the thread list, but when you open the thread, you have to search by date/time for the latest post, or remember which post you last read in that thread... which is probably fine if you frequent the board every day and read every post, but for an infrequent visitor, it is a pain in the arse to have to search by hand for the next unread post in a thread.....

I've looked at my user settings for viewing the forum, and can't find anything to help... please someone direct me if I've missed something in there...

What you are asking for (displaying unread posts) is the default way the board is set up.

All forums containing posts you've not read are displayed like this:


All posts that you've not read are displayed like this:


Threads and posts you have already read, or when you are logged out, will display like this:

I cannot see any of the icons you've posted there, but do the little squares that I've arrowed indicate the same thing? (They are the same colours as the envelopes in your posted icons)

The top one in my post at 12:17 is a different colour from the post by jglenny at 2:53... if it is then I apologise for having not seen those before, they are quite small though, and not too obvious...

Sorry, to make my point clearer, I meant are there any icons inside the thread, along side the individual posts themselves, to discern which are new since our last visit... I can now see the icons you have posted, exist in the thread list itself.

I understand you now. I'd not noticed, before you pointed it out, the small icons to the left of each individual post

I usually just scan to the end of an updated thread to see what has been written.

Yeah. Looks like those little icons are for marking read and unread posts. Although they don't change colour in the same day if you come back to read the same thread later on... but next day they do change, so pretty useful, and pretty much what I was asking for!

The best way would be to set it like redandwhitekop.com forum so when you are on it and you have say logged in and read upto the last post on a certian thread then you log out, once you log back in then you will automatically start at the last post you read if you go back onto thread X for example.

And there is a red box next to it saying new from the last time you were in the forum.

Although that board is like a big complicated forum lol
