"Rookie" Tournaments

Attended a rookie tournament at the Grosvenor Walsall yesterday afternoon - for a laugh.

£10+1 51 entries one rebuy permitted. prize pot £880

some observations from a newbie

Self deal - which meant that some of the time the cards were all over the place - one guy even commented that he was able to see the cards as they were dealt. (Maybe a bluff!?)

Then an "ex-casino dealer" took over and was very impressive dealing and sorting side pots etc etc (remember this a "rookie" tournament!)

Tiny chip stack. 9 starting chips each totalling 1000

blinds started at 25/50 went up every 30 mins I think

No cut card in use.

Free soft drinks

Great torunament software shows blinds and timings with audible announcements.

There is no definition of a "rookie"

chatting to the Winner's bird - she was proud to tell me that he's been playing 7 years and likes the easy money of rookie tourneys!!

Not that I blame him !

Good experience - I found I did a lot better in a live game than the 2 freerolls I have played!

Overall a great Saturday afternoon for a tenner.........Oh ok I had to rebuy so £20 total. One of my mates came second so watched to the end ..gripping stuff.

erm.......yes they did!

Had to laugh at a few that claimed "it's not fair!"

All's fair in love and war!

Now if the casino had run a beginner's class explaining the basics for an hour perhaps that may have deterred some experienced players??

I have been and played in their £5 + £0.50 Friday rebuy once.

It was my first time in a casino, and first experience of any kind of live poker.

Have to say it was an enjoyable feeling - ended up buying in a couple of times, but managed to limp into the final 20 to get my money back.

Although it wasn't a beginners tourney I did feel pretty comfortable after the first 20mins. I did get accused of posting a string bet, but the guy in the next seat vouched for what I said.
There were a few 'old hands' there who weren't particularly impressed when people seemed unsure of what to do, and did seem to think that they could intimidate.
But on the whole it was an enjoyable evening that i will endeavour to repeat.
