I hear what you say about the chat box adding a little more interest to the online game. Personally I see most of the chat as utter S**t so turn it off.
I agree that what you said during the online hand would have been fine in a live game. However I am still of the opinion that it is a little slack to do in an online chat window. I think most people would probably see straight through what you were trying to do and put you on a hand - I certainly would.
This is another example of how the online game is much more about pot odds and numbers rather than tells. I personally think the only "online tell" is the amount of time someone takes to make a bet and working out whether they have the "check/fold" button selected. Even that is hard to get any useful information out of as any good player will deliberately pause or call quickly to give the wrong impression about their hand. You can win playing online by using simple poker theory due to the fact that there are so many idiots who dont know what theyre doing!![]()
