    Default Southampton Festival of Poker

Just been sent this link in an email from a mate:

    http://www.pokermillion.com/communit...oker&nodeid=14

For those that can't be bothered to click the link, here's the info

Sounds like you have to deal your own cards unless you make it to the final table? Is this usual?

    Venue Review

The Casino is situated in the waterfront district of the city, a short walk from the main railway station, numerous hotels and "West Quay" - Europe's largest city centre shopping.

With Reading closing down their card room and Bournemouth along with Portsmouth not staging festival events, Southampton is something of an Oasis in the desert for the tournament in central Southern England.

That’s the plus side, the current negatives include seven seater tables and no dealers (apart from final tables). Cash players also suffer, as there are no regular games and those that are organised by players are self-deal affairs.

Field sizes for the venue’s two scheduled festival events have gradually increased and should continue to do so, with an Omaha tournament and much needed satellites likely to be introduced for the November renewal.

All-in-all, like any card-room, Southampton deserves support when you consider the space demands could easily be put to more lucrative use and, thankfully, management are seemingly aware of a number of their small inadequacies and improvements are promised.

The weekly tournaments offer both affordable fun and an excellent schooling ground for novice and small budget enthusiasts.

NB: The festival will be held from:
    31st Oct - 2nd Nov
With presumable one tournament per/day. Details will probably be available closer to the date.

Yes, I’ve never been to a tournament with a dedicated dealer (even in a £50 rebuy game). I think this is because the small profit the casino makes could not support the cost. I mentioned a couple of points about dealing in this post.

The last time I checked Reading was the only casino hosting this game. It’s good that it’s not going to disappear because Reading is closing its card room.
