If two players are left in a hand, and one of them bets on the river and the other calls, do both players then have to show their cards, or can the one who called muck after seeing the cards of the guy who bet?

I think the latter. The showdown starts with the bettor and tracks round to the last caller.

So we're clear, I mean specifically in the league, not just generally.

I think it's generally accepted in tourney play that players have a right to see folded hands after a call and before mucking to avoid accusations of chip dumping. However, in practice it can be quite difficult to enforce, and again there are variations depending on where you play.
No relevance in cash games of course. |

My understanding is this:
Whoever is in first position (which could be the caller or raiser) either has to show or muck their hand straight away thereby losing the pot and allowing the second player to win the pot without showing. The second guy can then either muck or show. But for some reason you can ask to see a mucked hand and they are obliged to show (or the dealer will show it), but it's considered bad etiquette. Sounds pretty stupid to me: why not just have a rule either show all or anything can be mucked? EDIT: In the LPL I'm not aware of there being any rules about this. I either just show my hands wherever I am or I sometimes muck if the other player shows first and I'm behind.

But the answer to your question is no...he does not have to show if you think that foul play is going on you can ask to see the other players cards before they hit the muck pile, in a casino you would just ask the dealer to show the hand... |

The caller has paid to see the other guys hand so he has a right to view it, he however does not have to show as he paid to see - not the other guy. However as this is clled a showdown it is the rule in some casinos/ card clubs that both hands will need to be seen.
The short answer is ask your tournament director what their rule is as there is variation from place to place - Not easy to get a solid answer with questions like these i'm affraid |
