Saturday 1st of March and the LPL circus rolled into town... Broadway Casino Birmingham to be exact for the Final of our three month league.
One hundred and thirty four players registered hoping to reach the Final table to win one of those 4 Vegas Prize packages and join the rest of LPL Crew going out to the WSOP in June 2008 A Slight delay with starting the tournament due to four dealers not showing up, but the Broadway were very quick to organize replacement dealers and the tournament kicked off just past 2:20. ![]() Our past three winners all qualified from the three month event; James Conlon(Bristol) Rich Buchan(Bath) and Nick Wright(Bath) Nick was unable to play due to his commitment to a tournament in Edinburgh James Conlon & Rich Buchan previous WSOP Winners ![]() Our League winners were all presented with their trophies before the start of the tournament ![]() from left to right(top) Dave Thompson(Manchester) Louise Cuthbertson(Bath) Tom Pullen (Gloucester) Steve Found(Bristol) Paresh Patel(Cheltenham) Glenn Wiblin(Yate & Chipping Sodbury) Players all started with a 10K chip stack and with blind levels starting at 25/50 30 minute levels you would think that it would take a while before any player left the tournament....not quite! First we have Mr Gloucester Dean 'im allin' Clune, its a party trick that Mr Clune has added to his poker skills that no matter what..he will push on the very first hand, and even though every one folded word soon got around that a player two seats down folded pocket A's.....hmmm ![]() Dean 'Allin' Clune Trevor Brooking had the dubious honor of being the first player out of the tournament, and as a ripple of polite applause came from around the tables trevor was found quickly heading to the bar! Trevor was runner up in our last monthly final held at the white Lion and some would say unlucky to lose that final. ![]() Trevor playing at the Last Monthly Final. Exit hand:Trevor holding pocket 8's came up against the dreaded 'American Airlines' AA and with a flop of A 4 8 someone was going to lose all their chips ..... Early chip leaders Dish Patel(Gloucester) 35K Martyn Simmons (Gloucester) 28K Previous Winners James Conlon 12K Rich Buchan 8.5K ![]() Dish Patel early front Runner.. Glenn Wiblin was involved in one of the hands of the day, and even though i don't consider this a bad beat its not something you see very often. Glen had AK flop 9 9 4 both players checked A turn A on the river, Glen shoves and gets a imediate call....player was holding pocket 9's to make quads Lunch break was around 7:30ish as the players get a much deserved break... Chip leader Liam Tinker (Manchester) 75K Mark Dudley(Bath) 65K ![]() Liam Tinker after lunch chip leader. Rich Buchan previous winner was out shortly after the break but James Conlon was still going strong. ![]() Rich Buchan(Bath) James Conlon was going well and with 4 tables left i started to take a active interest in how deep he could actually go... James seemed to have a run of good cards but combine that with a run of bad luck it looked like James would soon be out. ![]() James Wonders if his luck will ever change! First hand i saw was James holding 9's vs 7's against a short stack board came all rags ..turn 7 ....no 9 saw a large chunk of chip move across the table. Not long after James picks up AA and get a caller with K 10, this would leave James 10K if he lost this hand with the blinds at 3K -6K Flop 6 K 9 Turn Q River 10 Emma Masson from Gloucester doubles up and leaves James crippled and fighting for his tornament life. Couple of hands later with no one in the pot SB James pushes for the remainder of his stack Vs the BB James shows Q 10 Vs 10 8 ..you could almost feel and 8 coming ...it never did and James doubled up! Bubble for the Final table fell on short stack Carl from Bristol, who had moved in on two consective hands on the second all in Carl was to lose and leave the tournament in a very respectable 11th place ![]() Carl from Bristol Final Table report coming tomorrow.... |

Good report Mike - thanks for organising the day, twas good fun and it was nice to meet various of the Manc bunch.
One quesiton about the write up: First hand i saw was James holding 9's vs 7's against a short stack board came Q Q Q 7 ....no 9 saw a large chunk of chip move across the table. The 99 is still the best hand on that board as he has Queens full of Nines as opposed to Queens full of 7s. |

All around a bloody good day. The casino was very nice, too much temptation on friday night, too many shiny lights (I would be murder over in good ol usa).
![]() At least i showed everyone how to piss everything up the wall after the (overlong, for me, not a complaint, just how it turned out for me) break. Made some good calls and got bummed and some stupid calls and donked far too many chips off ![]() Hay ho you win some you lose some ![]() Nice one mike |
