This is probably because they mostly have pub-specific leaderboards, which don't exactly encourage you to go and play the other venues and learn from other players. Hence, they're FULL of donkeys.

The LPL is different. It makes you get off your arse if you want to qualify for the finals, and the playing standard is by far the highest around these parts (including the casinos, apparently). There is always, however, room for improvement. Better scheduling is needed, it'd be nice if the website was updated more frequently, and without wanting sound like a union rep, the general feeling is that we'd like a different kind of leaderboard. It might be shite, but probably not.

RevStu is dead right about what he says about the proposed new format. It still favours the regular players (Bingo Bob and H might be fucked, though!), but will also help to keep newcomers interested. It's great playing against your mates a couple of times a week, but we always need some fresh meat
Hi Ian

Not trying to be defensive over the format, but just trying to get my head around what benefits the new format will give.

I have started a new thread in the Forum based on just this to discuss the positives and negatives, but i do thank you for your kind comments on the LPL setting the standards for pub poker leagues...i will even share an e-mail i received today from a guy in Newcastle

I have been reading up on your league and it seems a hell of a lot better than ours. When will you becoming to the northeast of england, namely Newcastle area. Thanks

My mistake, then, fair enough - I thought they won seats to the same live final as the league qualifiers. I still don't think it's much of an incentive to most players, though - it's entry to a satellite giving a 10:1 or 20:1 chance of entry to another event with a 50:1 chance of winning the prize. I certainly never hear anyone talking about it.

The Three month league that has just taken part, the top 15 from the Bath league go forward to the live final in March plus 5 players with the best average as long as they have played 18 game in the three months.(you dont qualify automatically if you played 18 games doh)!!
I know that, but you did in Bath because there simply aren't enough frequent players nowadays to fill those 20 slots. Almost everyone who played 18 games qualified in the top 15, and the others (two, I think) who played 18 made it by default, leaving three seats unfilled that anyone who simply turned up to 18 games could have had regardless of their scores.

Default why not

why not make it the best 4/5 or more people with best scores from each pub go to 1 venue in the local area who then play for what ever is the prize that month /3months /year prize

if some people play in more than 1 venue and end up gaining a extra seat goes to next best in that pub

Default ?

i meant each pub as so many going to a local final who play players from local area who then play off for the final.

So if manchester area as 15 pubs take top 3 players from each give you a 45 area final then top 5 get into the month/3month/ year final at what ever venue you play at

so if bristol as 20 pubs top 3 would give you a 60 area final so on and so on

might have to play around with numbers as i dont know how many pubs/clubs in area and how many area's there is ..

Shane,

I see what you mean its an interesting idea but it involves a whole concept review which I dont think Mike is after. The qualifying structure works well. We are more looking at how to determine the monthly league winner.

Head over to the other thread and post you opinions in there!
