Finals Day at the 'Starting Gate'

Gloucester in hindsight may have not been the best place to hold the July monthly Final's due to the river Severn flooding the whole Gloucestershire area, and with the M5 shut due to an accident early on Sunday morning, my phone on non stop ring there seemed a time when it looked possible of a cancellation.

A delayed start and with 60 runners Gloucester's own 'Mr allin' Dean Clune lived up to his reputation with an allin on the very first hand, no callers and showing a 5 3 os ...two hands later Dean was looking for the exit door.

Our final table bubble fell to Gloucesters Chris Lee and with three ladies at the final table we could be seeing our first female winner.

Paul Dowding from Gloucester was the first to fall, Lisa A 5 raised to 18K table folded to Paul A K who flat called.
Flop was 4 3 7 Lisa Checked Paul Check Turn 6 Lisa Bet and Paul Pushed allin, a quick call as Lisa had the straight River 10


Paul Clark sitting on the Button was the next to get involved in knocking a player out, Jo from Cheltenham pushed allin with the A K table folded around to Paul who quickly called with Q 10 suited spades
Flop 5s 8s 10 Turn K river Q giving Paul 2 Pair.


6th Player out was Gloucester player Lisa Mumford; Dan raised in early position holding Q Q Lisa pushed allin with A Q 39.5K Yate player Martin Ralph thought long and hard before calling with pkt 5's Dan flat called.
Flop J Q 8 Martin checked; Paul pushed allin Martin folded. Turn and river were no help to Lisa.



Martin Ralph was the next player out when his all-in with K J suited clubs was called by Paul Clark holding A J Martin got no help from the flop and was out in 5th position.

Our last female to go out was Sophie James from Gloucester who pushed allin pre-flop with 10 J and was called by the big blind Matt who held K 5 Flop 8 8 A Turn A River 4 Sophie was out in 4th place.



Dan from Bristol was next to fall Matt Salvage raised to 50K Dan called.

Flop 9 Q 2 Matt K 10 pushed allin and Dan called Q 7 Turn J giving Matt the straight river 7 Dan out in 3rd place.

First time to the Finals for Paul Clark from Cheltenham is a great achievement to reach the Final Table and have a chance to put Cheltenham on the map as a winning Region.

Matt Salvage has now played 3 Finals and has now reached 3 Final Tables matching Martyn Simmons from Gloucester

Matt used his experience to bully Paul out of pots and take a commanding chip lead; Final hand saw both players take a flop.
Flop 3 4 3 Paul check 5 7 Matt pushed all-in 10 4; Paul who was short stacked thought long and hard before calling. Matt held the lead with top pair and left Paul chasing any 5 7 or a 6 for a straight.
