Last night I saw the worst beat Ive ever seen dished out in Sublime Bar:
Darren had caught a few high pairs and more often than not an ace on the flop scuppered his hand. He made the same pre-flop raise each time and so it was clear he had a big hand. He gets a call from Josh and just before the flop appears Darren mumbles something about not wanting to see an Ace on the board. The Flop came A,10,4 rainbow and Darren sighed. He was last to act and put in a raise which was called. The Turn was a Queen. This time Josh raises so he either has AA, KJ, AQ, QQ, Q10, 1010, 44 or bugger all. Darren goes all-in and Josh calls. Darren turns over pocket Aces for trips and just as I was reaching for his oscar Josh reveals pocket Queens for a lower set. Guess what pops up on the river? The case Q to give Josh runner-runner quads and Darren was out. The odds of a dominated set becoming quads post flop are 1000-1. |

I had a similar beat to this but online. I was dealt pocket As and raised preflop only to be called by one person. The flop came A 8 J of different suits. I check my set. The other guy raises and I re-raise. He calls. The next card was a 5. I bet the pot he called. The next card was a 5 which gave me the FH. I went all in he called and turned pocket 5s. How sick. What was he calling a re-raise with on the flop with 3 overs. SICK SICK SICK |

The Ladybrook last summer.
Tim is laughing his way to the chip bank (and the final table) when a 9 on the river turns his full house into quads. Naturally, when his raise gets re-raised to put him all-in, he calls in the blink of an eye, and makes ample room for his newly acquired stack. Gordon, however, has other ideas, as he'd flopped quad Jacks. Kaboooom! Oh, and just to stick the boot in further, Tim was dealing. Beat THAT. |

Sorry Ben, but had to get this one in. So Filo's in Bath, this wednesday night, first hand heads up. I get dealt aces in the big blind, beautiful, opponent Ben raises to 8K, i quickly go all in over the top and he quickly calls my all in. He turn over QJ diamonds, feeling a little better when i saw his hand. Flop is dealt Q J 10. I shrivel into my seat my aces never felt smaller. Turn comes and somehow I manage to catch an ace, the river was a nothing card. I covered him by 2K. I felt very bad for him and he let me know how he felt about the cards and me.

These two are the two worst bad beats I have had, notably the first one. Both on the internet (betfair).
Have KK, flop comes K 5 2 rainbow. Guy keeps betting into me, know I have the nuts, turn is 7, he still keeps raising, so I push him all in, knowing he is covered. He has 22 for lower set. He has 1 card out. River 2. For Quads. A little while later, get an aggressive raise when holding A10 spades, call it and flop comes 10 10 5, he again aggressively raises, so I push him all in, and he turns over Queens, turn 7, river Q. For full house. Doh |

Try this for size.
Online limit game, late position with 5c 5s I limp into a multiway pot. Flop comes down 5h Qh 5d. It's online so I'm leaping out of my chair with undisguised joy when my flop bet gets three callers. Turn is 9h. Action is check, bet, call, I raise, fold, fold, reraise, I cap and am called. River is 7h - you can see what's coming can't you? My flopped quads are busted by 6h8h following perfect turn and river cards for the villain. Gotta love riverstars - thank god it was a limit game. Now THAT is a bad beat! |
