Finals Day
Stotties in Weston-super-mare hosted the January leader board finals, and with our biggest field to date we saw 65 players come together to battle for those top 8 places and a great prize fund. With the introduction of Averages and some pubs adding an extra day to their week we saw a few new faces at this months Final, but the result always seems to be the same! Bath have yet again produced another winner in the form of James Gullock a long standing Bath player, who went heads up against first time finalist Jason Etherington from Bristol who could count himself a little unlucky when he had James all-in, James needing to save himself and his pocket 7's from a second place finish, the 7 came on the river and within a space of a couple of hands James had won the game. 1st Place... James Gullock Bath 2nd Place... Jason Etherington Bristol 3rd Place... Matt Salvage Bristol 4th Place... Darrell Norris Gloucester 5th Place... Jon Brock W-S-M 6th Place... Dean Clune Gloucester 7th Place... Martyn Simmons Gloucester 8th Place... Matt Parkinson Bristol A special mention to two players Martyn Simmons & Dean Clune both from Gloucester who have now made the last two Final tables which is an outstanding achievement. Next months final will be at the Gladiator Inn Gloucester on Sunday the 18th Of March registration starts at 12:15. |

looks from the final table that Bristol and Glos are overtaking Bath and Weston in the overall superiority stakes, especially combined with Glos win at the regionals.
Excuse me if I've got the wrong guy but if the winner is who I believe it to be, then hitting a full house when you were allin blind with 62o was a sign of how things were going to go in the next few hours. Congrats on the win and to all who cashed. |

Not sure where Dr. Winston got this superiority thing from. Bath WON the final at Weston....
Bath now have 5 Final winners and 2 WSOP winners I think and I may need to get Mike to back me up here but that makes us the most successful team in the area. Just because Bristol and Glous had more on the final table this time means nothing. When you look at the new winners shield there is only 2 names and they are both from BATH.. When another area gets there name on that shield more than the current 2 from BATH you can come and talk about superiority. Had to get that off my chest. |

Adie & Tom,
Please stop waving e-*****es! As it stands, yes Bath has more 'recent' winners, but that wasn't the case when i first joined the league about 12 months ago. And more to the point, 18tournaments or so is such a small sample size as to render any statistics meaningless! I haven't played that many finals but there are certainly players from Weston, Gloucester and Bristol that i don't want to see on my table at finals. Btw - i've heard that the new thing to do to win a final is to get blind drunk! Seems to work a treat! |

Adie, I'm from Weston so my comment about Bristol and Glos was actually stating how well they've done recently in finals etc. compared to how they used to fair when the league first started. It shows they're improving etc. Personally, I couldn't care less how "regions" do. Yes, if I don't do well I would like to see my friends do well but poker is an individual sport so that being said, I'll happily take chips from you, someone from bristol, glos, weston or even my own wife. It wasn't meant as a dig against Bath. As I said, I'm from Weston so if it were a dig it would also be against myself and the region I play in.
Donk, you could be onto something with the drunk thing. It seems I see a lot of people who can barely look at their own cards and they've got millions of chips in front of them !!! Maybe we should try that next time. |
