How's this for a bad beat story? I am two places off the money in last night's World Amatuer Poker Tour British Open which was hosted on Ultimate Bet. I am relatively short stacked with 3800 chips and an M of 3 and a bit. I have been rigourously applying Mr. Harrington's end game strategy. I moved all in with pocket kings, which I showed so that the rest of the table knew I was not bluffing. I then moved all in with KQ and got called by another KQ getting a split pot. So again the table saw I was making a move with a fairly solid hand. Several hands later I picked up pocket kings again. I moved all in and got a caller who showed KQ. The flop came A K J, the turn was a blank and you guessed it, number ten spikes on the river.
My only consolation is that 22nd place earns me about 44 world ranking points which should get me into the top 100 out of over 5000 WAPT members worldwide. If you are interested in joining the World Amatuer Poker Tour visit my website at www.whatpokersite.co.uk and follow the link to the WAPT website on my reviews page. In addition to holding about 15 major tournaments each year, including quite a few freerolls, tour members can also participate in two leagues which are held on Tuesday and Saturday nights. Success in either the leagues or the tournaments earns you points towards an accredited world ranking, as well as some money. I won their 2006 UK Open, and I won the 2006 Spring league. I am still playing with the winnings on Pokerstars 6 months later. |
