Default Pot calling kettle black

Yesterday in the online freeroll I had the dubious honour of being called a fish. It was quite early in the tournament and I had managed to win a few small pots and was up to about 1800 chips. The players at the table I was on had developed a pattern of either pre flop limping and then a low stack was moving all in on the flop to steal the pot, or otherwise someone was moving all in pre flop to take the blinds. In fact it was more like being at a final table than the second blinds level.

I was in the big blind holding Ac 8c. Two players limped in from early and middle positions and the small blind made up the bet. I checked. I think the flop came something like 3c 7c 9h and the small blind moved all in with his 1000 or so remaining chips. As the small blind had not raised pre flop I put him on a small to medium pair. Doing a quick count of my outs I decided I needed to catch a club (9 outs), an ace (3 more outs), or one of several runner runner combinations to make a straight or a running pair of 8s, a running pair of aces or a running combination of ace and 8.

I decided to call and the small blind showed pocket threes, giving him trips. As is the way with my luck recently when playing on line, I got no help from the turn or river and the small blind took the pot. I congratulated my opponent with the customary "nh" and then the player who had folded in middle position started calling me a fish because I was "chasing". I do not want to name this individual so we shall give him an alias of "Fishy Pies". All I have to say to Fishy Pies is that it will be a long while before he is ever likely to win an LPL freeroll. The blinds go up so quickly in on line games that you have to make "moves" and gamble in order to progress. If I had won the hand I would have doubled my starting stack and had a good platform with which to move forward in the tournament. (This strategy has served me well in the past, I came 2nd in the LPL freeroll three months ago and I am the World Amatuer Poker Tour 2006 UK Open Champion, and last night I came 22nd in the WAPT British Open out of a field of 185 players.)

I decided to push all in a few hands later with my remaining 300 odd chips, and got appropriately donked out. So I stuck around for a few minutes to see how Fishy Pies got on. Having played for a total 20 minutes he had nursed his stack and made nothing. He then succeeded in losing a third of his stack in one hand which put him on tilt. Two hands later he moved all in pre flop holding pocket 8s and got called by pocket queens. I laughed my ass off.

Couldn't resist typing "BIGGER FISH", to which he replied meekly "At least I wasn't chasing". I laughed my ass off again.

Default Mmmm, does it smell too?

Nice one Walty!! Since posting this thread earlier I read your post about your little adventure in Brummy land. Now I can understand why you were so fish obsessed. Fish are so much nicer to eat when they have been steaming??

Default Saturday APAT game

"See" you at the APAT French Open, Pokerstars, 8 PM Saturday 30th. As for the HU challenge, the same thought had crossed my mind, but just now I can't afford to play games for significant sums of money, seeing as I am not working at the moment. For example, even if I had received an invite to the APAT game in Birmingham, I would not have been able to afford the buy in. Christmas presents for the kids kind of take a priority.

All the best of luck to you, and keep the very entertaining posts coming.

Fl1cker

I remember that hand, I was on the same table.

As mike Matusow once allegedly said

"not calling that hand is like inviting 2 prostitutes round your house and then doing a runner out the back door"

good call. cant win them all.
