I've been thinking about these finals for the WSOP and it seems that there is going to be some travel for anyone who wants to play, and some sort of overnight stay. With this in mind could the whole weekend be made more appealing, maybe with help from a sponsor, maybe not.
Ideas I've had so far include. 1) Birmingham. Maybe not the best place to play. I know it's had a lot done to it recently but it is still Birmingham. If we are going to have to spend a weekend away, and spend money, maybe somewhere else in the midlands which is more picturesque or pleasant would be good, Worcester, Shrewsbury somewhere like that. 2) The whole ide of travelling that far, just to go out first hand is pretty unappealing. Could there be some sort of festival involved. For example if you can find a venue, maybe hold some more games the next day or day before, like a £10 rebuy game, just to give us some other reason for travelling. Maybe with a bit of added cash from a sponsor as well. Maybe if it was in Brum you could hire a room at a casino for this, or find some sort of loophole that would allow you to play it in a hotel. If you find a venue that doesn't mind cash games going on that would be great. Anyway, these are just a few ideas to make the whole weekend about more than just this one game, seeing as we will be coughing up something for the chance to play. Oh and Hi everyone. |

Hi, and welcome
I think you make some valid points, but you can't really ask Matt to stump up more cash - he's already paying for 3 WSOP seats! Unless there is another sponsor you've got in mind? With regards to Birmingham, the casino I would imagine would be able to hold people would be the Broadway Casino (they are holding the APAT tourny this weekend with 120 players in, so maybe they would be able to get a few ore tables in), the Star Casino certainly wouldn't fit that many in - not sure about the Circus Casino. Worcester and Shrewsbury as far as I know do not have casino's unfortunately and I very much doubt you would find a hotel willing to allow 140 people to take over their conference facilites - licencing comes into play and especially if there are cash games going on, they could get into all sorts of trouble. If it's held in a casino, then I wouldn't think they would any problem with allowing side games with £10 or £20 buy-ins. I don't know all the details as yet, but maybe if it was to start at 11am or something, then there would possibly be no need for overnight accommodation? |

I really don't think over night accommodation is really needed if your only 1 hour away from home, i know some people will but most will make the trip and then leave the same day. If you go out in the first hand that would be unlucky, but lets not lose sight of actually whats on offer here, and that 3 seats to the WSOP in Las Vegas...for that i think i would travel anywhere in the UK to get a chance to win one seat..so an hour down the motorway is not going to be a huge sacrifice. If we get to hold it in Birmingham the chances are that this will be the only event going on, as its going to take some organizing and i wouldn't want to be distracted with another comp running at the same time. More details of a venue will be posted soon |

Maybe 'Unappealing' is a bad choice of word. It's a great prize and one that is worth travelling for. But what I really mean is perhaps if there was some sort of second game the day after then it might encourage people to stay over, and we could make it more of a social event, instead of just turning up, playing cards, and doing one.
There's going to be a lot of poker players there, most of whom I are quite friendly, and up for a laugh after the game, and some sort of social part of it would be good. Anyway, i ain't gonna qualify at this rate..only managed to play once this month.. |

lol @ "it's still Birmingham". A really simple thing to do is try to get a venue with Wireless internet capability. If people knew, they could bring laptops and play online if they go out early. I'm sure everyone who plays online knows the hours can fly by. Plus, the venue would get some $$$ if people played there.
