I was at the tables in Manchester this week and the smoking was just too bad to endure, my gripe is this:
There is no other 'sport' that allows this to go on in participation so why at poker, the old image that poker gave of whiskey and cigars is as old as the ark, poker has moved on. I know regardless, smoking takes place in pubs and until it is banned from the venues as a hole then we will have to endure it but having to sit next to someone who is chuffing away is almost impossible to endure and poker time is precious when you can be doing it online earning money, we need the live interaction, to hone our reading tells and playing skills, so why should the individual who doesn't smoke and there are many of us, have to endure this, why do we have to breath the same polluted air as them, sometimes in such confined spaces. Smoking at the table should be banned from the Poker League!!! I know even some of the organisers wont like this but its a move up the scale, taking it to a higher level I know I'm not on my own and with this in mind it may bring in more players who would like to play but are put off by the environments. It gives a greater sense of professionalism and greater respect for each other, if they need it for security just do it like Sammy Farha Part of enduring the long spell at the tables is fitness, your going to flag a lot easier if you not fit, and the player who can hold his senses together longer staying sharper wins. You know the rest. Knocking it on the head would help the guys/ladies to endure the benefits of not having a smoke for long periods, after all if they were at the WSOP there isn't any smoking what are they gonna do then, the DT are pretty off putting and that's coming from me an ex smoker, yes 2 years and still of them. An no I'm not being sanctimonious it is in favour of the game as a hole, but yes i would like my clothes to smell good going home and not feel like i've been smoking 40 Rothamans next day, i just want to get up thinking about the hands i just won and not put off buy the.... i'm bored ranting now, but if you agree say, if you don't say... I've put on my tin helmet and I'm running for cover. Last edited by SaintLucas : 8th September 2006 at 02:52 PM. |

Iam a non-smoker and i absolutly hate smoking - however its all down the individual venue whether they allow it or not... if i was a land lord hosing a game and the organiser said to me we would like non-smoking i would tell them where to go! Most venues have the game in the main bar areas anyhow and seeing as you cant stop people from smoking in the pub what difference is it going to make?
If you dont like it dont play - simple! Once the new smoking laws come into place soon then no one will have anything to worry about! |

Hey Guys,
While I do understand how smoking can bug ya, just remember that like said by: s4ooter, many many tells are seen on smokers. e.g. reaching for smoke gingerly, so as not to miss any action, will say alot about a players confidence of his hand. Or, player playing with a ciggy BUT not lighting it, he has a good hand and waits to see folks eaction to it. |

Yeah ban smoking.- The Assembly Inn, Bath poker room is terrible for smoke which is the main reason why I no longer go there.
Roll on the ban! |
