Default Late chip-up doesn't work

The new chip-up rule (no chip-up until 22.30) doesn't work. Last night at The Assembly some players at the final table had to play with huge stacks of 25/50 chips, for 20 mins or so, because of this rule. This meant that the speed of play was severely reduced as players were counting out tons of 25/50 chips for big bets in multiway pots. Table space was also a problem.
Surely this has to be looked at.

You're right that many players have huge stacks of red/white and as such it's sometimes good for the organisers, if they aren't still in to do a kind of - chip us as they go thing for players who have masses of these denominations.

Another thing that would make it run smoother is for players not to splash the pot when pushing a stack of whites in as whoever wins the pot then spends two minutes stacking them back up.

For the players one easy thing to do is to, as best as possible, organise these reds and whites into stacks equivelant to the BB or SB or stacks of 500 which makes pushing them into the middle easier.

Stack management is all part of poker and players will learn very quickly to manage there stacks...i agree with Nick that on some of the really large stacks getting them to make 500 stacks so that you can quickly chip them up will be come part of the process and should not really interfere with the game.
if you feel the need to stop the game at around the 2 hour mark to get rid of the Reds & Whites i will leave that up to the organizers of the game to decide.

Of course there is one other option that i have been thinking about running in the Bath Area and thats a earlier start time. 7PM or even 7:15?

I like that idea - even though i usually show up at 7.25 - from an organisers' point of view there's no difference between starting at 7 and 7.30 and the extra 30 minutes could allow for another blind level or even another 3 levels at 20 minutes, as well as to help with chip up.

Not sure how many players this would effect negatively? And of course the pubs benefit.

Most people seem to be there from 19.15 in my limited expereince, though you do always get the odd straggler.

In terms of stack handling, there does seem a habit for people to always post "small change" as blinds. Maybe it's psychological, but when you get to, say, 800/1600 I've seen players put in 32 red chips instead of just putting in one of each (green/blue/black), which would take a fraction of the time.

The late chip-up at the last game I played did seem a bit strange I have to admit, but bringing the start time forward 15 minutes (though keeping blinds as are) would allow much more time for a proper chip-up.

The new system worked very well Mike. Although people were complaining last night about some of the new levels lol...

"1500/3000 Blinds, what the hell! Its eating my stack, we want the old system back..."

So to shut them the hell up I said,

"you want the old system? Fine, blinds are now 5000/10000"

That worked. (of course I didnt actually revert to the old system, I was just pointing out the difference, being 10.30 the game was usually done by then in the Royal Oak. Theyre not used to it lasting until 10.50! After losing 8 players on the first few hands (lol) it looked like the game would be done early, but the smoother blind levels allowed for more play and it didnt blind people out so quickly.)

I havent heard a single complaint about a large hike up from 200/400 to 500/1000 or similar like I used to hear just about every night. I know its only early days, but it does seem to work better on first impressions.
