Hi I am currently doing a blog project on gambling for a module at uni. I have created a blog about the increase in gambling in the UK.
I would appreciate it if people would visit the site, add comments and give me feedback on it. It raises some good issues and is topical. Thanks Gambling Crazy UK |

Hi there!
Only had a quick glance at your site, but this snippet caught my eye as it is a statement that I have seen before and it really winds me up! Quote:
Do we invest £50 each every month, or do we lose £50 each every month...? There is an ENORMOUS difference between those two things - who writes this crap??? I think they mean lose of course, so why don't they just call it that! ![]()

Well KasinoKing - Its Not True, thats why the statement is 'spend'.
People can spend £50 a month, and win OR lose... you can say everyone loses everytime they spend £50, because its possible for them to win with that £50 and walk away

By the same token I can spend £50 on shares, a pension fund or just bank account savings. Chances are I'd have around £50 or more back, so KasinoKing is right to question what "spend" means.

Basil that makes no sense what so ever in the statement I am
Quote:
It says people are 'spending' £50 on average, that doesnt mean people are losing £50 a month... How in GODS NAME do you INVEST in gambling? And where does pension fund come into gambling?! The statement is made attacking government figures over average gambling spends for the general UK population, nothing to do with a Pension Fund, or Bank Account Savings... Pension Fund = Investment Roulette Wheel = Gamble

Definitions of investment on the Web:
* money that is invested with an expectation of profit * the act of putting on robes or vestments If you loaded your poker account with $50 then that would be an investment if you expected that you would win money (although you dont have to actually win, just expect it) |

The blog's gone now, but the quote above says spending up to £50 a month. Anyone who only buys a lottery ticket in a given month would be included in that figure.

I think the figure is high seems like a lot but as the person says if it includes lottery then I suppose it makes more sense but it is still high.
