You both made very good points, and very nicely put.
At the end of the day we are all slightly different & it's down to the individual.
I do gamble to make money, of course, but it's not the be all & and all to my existence. I actually enjoy what I do and I know I have enough self-control to not 'go crazy' as I admit I did sometimes do in my younger years.
You're right it does take up an awful lot of time, and I do need to cut back a bit. However, it doesn't scare me as much as just being a couch potato sitting in front of the TV watching crap for hours on end!
As for investments - sorry, not for me. Just too darned slow & boring.
Most months my return on my 'casino investment' is well over 100% - I bet you can't double your money on the stock market in 4-weeks!
As I said, each to their own. I like what I do for my extra income, and I hope you like what you do.

Very sensible points Arie.
I spend perhaps 2 hours every morning before work getting my bets, place them, and don't even worry about them. I get home, check my betting bank and record the results whether I am up or down. I think it is important not to let gambling control your life. I understand that some people do and it affects not just them, but their whole family- debts and so on. People would probably say I'm addicted to gambling- I don't bet everyday, but I do spend time seeing if there are bets on everyday and bet accordingly, but as I'm making money is this a gambling addiction????
Although personally, I see my horse racing betting as an investment- whilst you can go on losing runs, I'm still pretty confident that I can show profit at the end of the month so although it is part of my life, I enjoy the challenge and am now a very sensible sports bettor.
KK,
I'm just speaking of experiences. I'm not trying to change you. You sound exactly like my dad. I've given up on trying to change my dad a long time ago. If I did ever changed him in anyway, it was not intensional. Only you know yourself and your own situation. I just hate seeing family fall apart and get torn up because of a gambling habit. I've lived through it and do not ever wish it on anyone. However, if you say you have self control, that's all you need. I agree with you, gambling is fun, especially when you are winning. It's just the consequences you have to pay and all the people you hurt around when you gamble away more than you can afford.

I agree that gambling in horse is a lot more profitable than roulette. With online roulette you will always be fighting against the house advantage in every single bet you place. You will be relying on pure luck. At least with the horses, you can use judgement and skill to decide the outcome.
