It works well until the day it doesn't and you lose the lot.

To improve the Martinggale strategy would it be better to wait for a run of one colour, say 5 reds in a row then start betting on blacks?

Sure it makes it even more boring but it does give you some more breathing space.

At the end of the day roulette is a game of luck, just see if tonight is your lucky night.

Oh dear......thats the precise reason people lose so much in roulette!

Every spin is independent of the last. Just because black has come out 5 times in a row, doesn't mean red will be more likely to come up.

Yeah but any player who bets on every spin of the wheel is destined to lose money IMO.

In Roulette there are 37 numbers but you only get paid odds to 36 i.e.35/1
this gives the casino an edge of 2.7 and it is this edge you have to beat if you want to be an overall winner.Mathematicians for the last two or three hundred say it can't be done. But we gamblers still try.To do so we must respect the odds and think DIFFERENTLY.
The most sensible method in books I have read is John Bourners book "Roulette for fun and profit"Ther are others that are-well- to be charitable- rubbish.
I certainly think that the casinos edge can be overcome or I wouldn't continue playing. It is clearly nonsense for people to say that their are no winning systems when they don't KNOW! If you had a winning system would you really tel others and kill the goose that lays the golden eggs?Wouldn't the casinos pay millions for you NOT to tell others?
More anon And A Happy Xmas!

If this was theoretically available, rather than the casinos pay millions for you NOT to tell, they could just scrap roulette out of their casino, job done? They could easily replace it with another idea... at least i think anyway?

"Casinos would simply stop offering roulette rather than pay millions to someone NOT to share a winning system with others."
It depends on whether or not it would still be profitable for them.If all the casinos in the world shared this cost how much would each of them pay?
No one knows, of course, so at the moment it is an academic question.
My main point was that people should not state for definite what is only an opinion, that someone has NOT found a winning system.A winning system should NOT be shared for the reason I gave.
The Theory of Probability is just that An educated guess..The future is unpredictable excepting the usual suspects DEATH and Government Taxes!
Thanks for the reply and A HAPPY NEW YEAR.

How on earth is there a 3 page thread on this? There's nothing to discuss. There's no method, no one has a method that consistently works and roulette is the most shit game in the world and for mugs

That there isnt a way to beat roulette is as clear to see as the fact that there isn't a fourth primary colour or that there isn't a triangle with anything other than 180 degrees. You only need a basic grasp of reality to know these things.

Primary colours don't exist - they are either imagined, or at best imperfect. e.g. Tetrachromats (birds, marsupials, some women) can see 4 primary colours (birds, marsupials can see in ultraviolet, whereas some women have an additonal colour receptor for yellow.)
The ability to sense colours is down to individual biology. Hence for some people there are 4 primary colours, and for others 3. For most mammals (excluding the great apes) there are only 2 primary colours.

In spherical geometry (e.g. not using Euclidean straight lines) the angles of a triangle add up to more than 180 degrees.
