Philadelphia, PA, United States (AHN) - After an injury-plagued 2009 season, the Philadelphia Eagles decided Tuesday to part ways with one of the franchise's all-time greats in running back Brian Westbrook.

The versatile Westbrook, 30, was due to earn about $7.25 million had the Eagles decided to bring him back for next season.

But the club decided to drop Westbrook due to his price tag and his decreasing numbers in the past two seasons.

Westbrook saw action in only eight tilts last season, missing games with a pair of concussions and an ankle injury.

A former All-Pro, Westbrook posted career-lows of 274 rushing yards, 181 receiving yards and two total TDs last year.

In 2007, he led the league in yards from scrimmage with 2,104, rushed for 1,333 yards and had 12 TD in earning his second Pro Bowl nod.

Westbrook, a third-round selection in the 2002 NFL Draft out of Villanova, is the Eagles career leader in yards from scrimmage at 9,785.

In franchise history, Westbrook's total 5,995 rushing yards ranks second, while placing third in career receptions with 426.

Westbrook also ends his Eagles' career with 3,790 receiving yards and 68 touchdowns, third in team history.

His release will not be official until March 5, the opening day of free agency.

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh product LeSean McCoy, a second-round selection in the April Draft, is expected to take the bulk of the chores following Westbrook's departure after eight seasons.

In his rookie season, McCoy ran for 637 on 155 carries.
