What is a Lay bet

Sorry I tend to assume because I have been an avid follower of changing racing trends that everyone does the same sorry.
A lay bet means you are in effect acting like a bookie, you are laying a stake whereby you want the horse you are laying to lose, or put another way in any race where you back a horse to win in a race of say 10 runners you have one horse racing to win for you and the bookie or layer against you has the other nine running for him, however when you lay a horse you have in effect turned it around, whoever backs the horse you lay still has one horse running for him, you however as the layer now have the nine horses running for you, the risk or liability for you is greater but with the right system or tipster you can and will make money.
I do not hide any facts with my tips they can be checked for validity on Tip Exchange, and if you check back you will see that in Feb and March I had a disasterous time, I seem however to have turned the corner this month, however I feel it is only fair to point out that some of the credit should go to a guy on here called Stroma who suggested I lower the odds I was laying at, I have done this and whenever I have a horse win a race instead of losing it the damage to my betting bank is far less, as for the points system I use a point can be anything fron £1 up to £10 depending on the size of your betting bank.

No not what I mean, you take each lay as an individual bet and decide on the odds regarding form, going, and number of runners in each individual race, never try to lump all my selections as an accumulatore, you will surley lose big time, regard each selection as an individual single lay.

Lets look at the results:
6.50 Hay Darley Sun Utilising the Betfair SP to give a more realistic indication as opposed to SP you can see that the Betfair SP was 2.49. Therefore if you layed (meaning saying that Hay Darley cannot win) and you want to pocket £10, then you would have risked £14.90. Hay Darley won so you lost £14.90.
However Pro Lays performed very well with all of the following selections losing. SO you take on each of the horses to win £10, you win that £10 minus commission (say 4%) so you pocket £9.60 for each of the losing horses.

So your (-£14.90) early on has been erased by the gain of 5 x £9.60 = £33.10 in front. However this is the problem when horses get up on you when you have layed them at decent price.
7.10 Uttox Knighton Combe
The above horse won at a Betfair SP of 8.90. So for the £10 you layed to win, you actually lost £79. So your days total has gone from £33.10 to down (£45.90). Pro Lays did say not to lay it unless under odds 7.00 but it did trade below this price for quite a bit so say you did only lay it at 7.00. You still lost £60 so the day ended negative with you losing money.
The other thing to take into account:
Quite often the prices at which you have to lay at are higher than both the SP and Betfair SP. SO the reality of it is you would have lost more than the £26.90 LOSS which was probably your absolute best result.
It is very difficult making money from laying horses unless you do the form yourself.
Just because a big priced winner like Knighton Combe above can wipe out all the good work from earlier in the day.
You need lots of patience and deep pockets.
Thanks Stroma for explaining in a more clear and concise way the highs and lows of laying, as you will have gathered I am no writer (lol), as you point out I do put the tips on tip exchange, and even after yesterdays bad day on this month I am still over 60 points ahead.
I have 6 selections for today and as you can all imagine I am hoping for better today.

Please moderators I am not trying to start a war or anything but I should be allowed to show inconsistencies on what 'Mr Pro Lays' is claiming with his service.
I think in the interest of punters - some of whom might be following him - should be aware of.
As Pro Lays sais, he proof tips to Tip Exchange.

Despite some bad results recently our service is over 80pts up this month, at £10 per ponit this meand you would be in profit to the tune of £800, why not try our free trial before joining this great lay service.
This was before yesterdays poor results.
The thing is on the Tip Exchange website, his bets are recorded as 10 points lay every time. So his 80 point profit is correct up until yesterday but on his basis of £10 per point you are laying £100 PER BET to get to the +£800 generated from the 80 point profit.
That has now gone to a -44 point profit today and on the same basis of £10 per point / £100 per bet you would now be losing £440. This is a very large bet indeed and I suggest to punters that they look at much lower stakes.
I am only stating fact, not trying to fight with anyone or the like.
I think some clarity is needed.
