    Default it has begun!!!!

betonsports dot com has been shut down due to the american government not allowing americans to bet on the site, also their costa rica and antigua bases have been closed too, is this the beginning of the end? will all sports and poker sites be forced to close to the american public? will their be a massive influx of american players on the uk sites? or will the yanks fuck it up for us too somehow?

The enforcement law is more than really disgusting.

It was supposed that offshore gambling sites would remain apart as betting option, but after the bill Americans will begin to flood UK sites before look at anywhere else.

Is there any chance sites like betfair here in the UK will be shut down?

I cannot imagine betfair closing down, but for others it depends upon how much they relied upon US custom.
There will be a lot of the US focused books going down the tubes, but for the established UK (and European) books I can't see it affecting them a great deal. They only way they could be 'shutdown' if if the banks that process their payments have dictated that they should no longer take US business and they refuse - the banks would then withdraw their funding mechanism which would effectively shut the mout rather than down.

There will be an influx of Americans on UK sites, Id guess. This is just the latest in dumb legislation in the US. God forbid something useful be done/legislated.

A friend of mine says that the idea behind this is getting people gambling but at land-based casinos in America, not online, where government can't control at all the money that casino's owners are making.
