Illinois vs. Indiana, Take Indiana Hoosiers

Indiana has had a week to get ready for this one after a loss at Michigan St. in its last game. The Hoosiers are 5-1 at home this season losing only to Duke, who has yet to lose this year. Illinois has won the last five meetings so the Hoosiers certainly want some revenge and this is their best shot at it over that span. Only one of those five games was played in Bloomington and that was last season in what turned out to be just a two-point Illinois win.

Even though it’s a different year, there is still a bull’s-eye on Illinois’ back and that is especially the case when it makes a visit in conference play. The Illini have lost only once this season an that just so happened to come on the road at Iowa. They are 1-1 on the road this season so the lack of any true road games early on has definitely hurt them in getting ready for Big Ten action. Illinois is 2-1 in the conference but neither of the two have been dominating and those were at home.

Illinois has a very strong inside game but Indiana matches up very well with a very strong interior game. The Hoosiers have outscored their opponents in the paint this season by nearly 100 points (432-343), including nine times in 13 games this season. Indiana has combined to outscore its foes per game in the paint, 33.2-26.4, this season and the Hoosiers have scored 30 or more in all but three games this season. They are led by Auburn transfer Marco Killingsworth who is making a run at player of the year honors.

Overall, Indiana is shooting 53.1 percent on the season which is 1st in the country and it is one of only eight teams to be shooting 50 percent from the floor or higher. Illinois has a great defense, allowing only 38.9 percent on the season but that has been a schedule ranked 124th in the country while the Hoosiers have played the 20th toughest slate in the land.
