Check that the lead from the mpu to the hopper is securely connected at both ends. Also check to see if 4 green led's are lit on the mpu as well. Any out could mean a faulty power supply which could cause this.

I am suspecting a power supply fault. Does the machine boot up with the front door open without alarming?

Are you SURE all 4 green LED's on the MPU5 are lit up?

Could a £1 coin be stuck in the sensor of the hopper?
