I use to be a slot tech on cruise ships but we had American machines. I've no experience with UK fruities but always felt the percent payout were crap. Our US machines were set anywhere between 89% - 94% and of course people still complained they were too tight. What are the average payout percentages on UK machines? You need to make them as loose as possible to keep people playing them. Word of mouth about your machines paying out should help you stay afloat.

Online arcades are a big nail in the coffin. Unless the arcade has something special to offer which gives it a unique ambiance then I see all of them gone within the next few years

I wrote a really long winded reply but the board didn't post it for some reason and I can't be bothered retyping it.

Basically, machines are overpriced stakewise, unimaginative, poor value for money in terms of gameplay and arcades are in the main very unwelcoming places. The industry has screwed you over by forcing higher JP's and the government have allowed it to happen. Forget all the other types of gambling available, that simply creates more gamblers but if you look back 10 years, you had to queue to go on machines in a pub and some days my machine doesn't even get played. 20+ DOND machines and 20 more clones. No decent designers, very few companies producing machines and machines being produced way too quickly when its simply not necessary.

If you want imaginative games try Williams! They have a uk base in London but not sure what games are legal here. Their UK details:
    WMS Marketing UK Limited
    4th Floor
    26-28 Bedford Row
    London, WC1R 4HE
    United Kingdom
    Phone 0203 077 8950

I can't find a uk website for them though, only some construction management site with virtually the same name.

Yep and £70 JP's were apparantly released "to make cash for pubs and clubs" so I read on the internet...lol...like u said there is never a "queue" to play on games any more. they are too expensive to play, fixed to the teeth and when u get on the board on £70 JP's they can pay as much as £25 and £35 machines used to. The £1 a go is a real ass on most machines too...anyway why pay £1 for one spin on a £70 when u can play a £500 JP for the same price?? lol
And I agree there are too many DOND's around now - have u heard about the new ones - Banker's Bonus and another one...apparently u can play the DOND game again and bank what u won... :-/
I never play them on the £1 option - it is a con - if the machine needs to pay out it'll pay on 25p or whatever - yes there may be feature bonuses if u get on the board on £1 play but u'll never be any better off cos it'll cost more to play and the machine will only pay what it can afford to pay - % payout etc

If the £70's are shooting arcades in the foot then why dont arcades / pubs make a stand and go back to the £35's - people dont care about the new DONDs anyyway on £70 as they are all the same and that is what is littering our arcades / pubs at the moment. I know of quite a few independent pubs who ARE requesting £35 machines now as the £70 arent getting played by the average Joe. Only players are playing the £70s and it will in turn F it up for the player, the punter, and the pubs/arcades!

I have to agree with you there. £70 machines are just not being played enough.
Johnny's Amusements @ 114 Gorgie Road in Edinburgh is the only arcade in the UK to feature a dedicated Retro Section.
