    Default Beginner Question...

I know this is going to sound like the most stupid question ever but I can't find the answer anywhere.
When playing fruit machines (barcrest) what is it you're trying to get on the bottom reels to get you on the board?
I can get on but I don't know how. I get that a line of 3 identical pictures e.g. 3 oranges will get you on but I also see alot of people holding "number icons" (like an orange with a +1 beside it.)

Also what are the differences between the different stakes e.g. 10p 20p etc, aside from the obvious each spin costs more money.

    Cheers

I suppose it does sound stupid to most people, but if you've never played a fruity before how could you be expected to know?

    Generally there are 3 ways to get on the feature board;
    1) As you already know, getting a 'normal' reel win (pretty rare).
    2) Getting 3 special symbols anywhere in view (on some machines they have to be on the win-line)
    3) Advancing along a numbered 'ladder' until reaching a certain point (the reels have little numbers on some of the fruits).

The different stakes make no difference to the overall payout, except on some £35 jackpot machines where betting 50p (instead of 25 or 30p) increases the payback by 6%.
i.e. if betting 10p it would take twice as many spins (on average) to hit the feature as it would if betting 20p.

One important thing, if you are unaware, fruit machines are NOT random in the true sense of the word. They are programmed to give a certain return percentage (usually anything from 70% to 84%); they will give you a win "when they feel like it", the rest of the time they just take the p...!

I was addicted to the bloody things for over 20 years & lost a flipping fortune.
Then about 4-5 years back I discovered online slots really are random, have average returns of around 95%, can be played with very small (or very big) stakes and that most casinos will give me big bonuses (100% or more) to play them. I have been winning ever since! (not a fortune... but profit all the same).
I still play fruities occasionally, but I sometimes feel physically sick after I've just wasted £50+ on them.

Take care, and don't put more into a fruity than you are fully prepared to and can afford to lose.

Yea, I was playing one today and I think I've kinda got it.
You either need 3 the same, enough numbers to get all the way up the side or enough to get halfway up and land on the bonus and from there get on.
Do symbols other than the usual cherries, oranges lemons do anything different. e.g. sevens or bells?
I only ask because they seem to come up much less often.

    Thanks

They are higher value wins so you will see them less. Also they have diferent values on different machines ie. can you dig it bells are £5 but on gun powder slot they are £35 so look at the machine to see how it pays

The reason you lost money for 20 years was because you obviously didn't have a clue what you are doing. You obvously weren't in the loop, didn't have the correct information, didn't play the correct machines at the correct time and didn't know when to stop.

If you were in the loop, had the correcty info, played the right machines at the right time, and knew when to stop then I can guarantee you wouldn't have lost money for 20 years. you would have made money consistently and would without doubt now be able to make more money playing real machines than you would ever be able to make playing online random slots.

Why? Because although online random slots have an average high percentage payout, they are random (in the loosest sense of the word) and because of that, you can't really force them, you can't manipulate them, you can't leave them dead for the next player who comes along and you can't check if they are full before you start playing.

I can't argue with any of that - I was a mug without a clue and I admit it!

Since learning how fruities work I have done a bit of forcing with reasonable success, but it involves going out from pub to pub with pockets full of pound coins and being patient enough to wait for the right moment to 'strike' - to be honest I'm an impatient lazy sod & would rather just sit at home in front of my PC playing with virtual money!

Well at least you admit it which is pleasent to see.

And to be honest, as long as you aren't losing bucket loads of money anymore and enjoy playing online then good luck to you.
