Hi there, I did search the forum but couldn't see anything useful so sorry if it has already been asked. Anyway I'm a n00b.
SO...last night I was in wetherspoons and they had 2 machines, a red gaming "Vortex" and and Bell Fruits "Deal or no Deal."
The stake for the vortex was 30p and the DOND was 50p, so I put a few quid in the vortex and go nowhere at all. I decided not to spend anymore since it seemed a mean machine with its 73% payout.
However, I was standing near it later and saw some other guy having a bit of success on the DOND and then he moved to the Vortex and won a bit there too. He moved off and I looked at the vortex and the stake had changed to 50p, and there was an illuminated "+6%" above it.
Now, I was just wondering, since im assuming that this means the probability has gone up to 79%, why does it need to up the price? has it paid out too much!? does that mean that despite it saying it gives it better odds, that actually you'll just end up losing? or, is this the time to chuck your coins in?
Either way, I had no money and it had gone back down to 30p within about 30 seconds...
Theres a lot of theorys about 30p and 50p like are their different pots for each stake or does it all come from the 1. The main way I see it is this :
Say vortex is sitting there having taken £1000 and paid out £700 so the m/c % is sitting at 70% however it's target is 73% so it's 3% under. So in reality the machine is only £30 off target.
Now you hit that 50p stake and the machine is pushed upto 79% and suddenly without putting any money in it's £90 off target and will play alot happier.
I may be taking this wrong but you actually choose which stake you want to play, and maybe the vortex goes up to 50p per go after you change the stake??
My experience on the £35jp machines is very limited, I just 'assume' that playing on 50p per go will make a force faster as you're spending more money in a shorter time so the machine will be happier in less time.
Whether Mega Streaks go for more with 50p plays over the 30p plays I'm sure someone can help us out there...
Firstly, machines don't change stakes themselves to change the percentage.
Secondly, most £35 and some £25 machines have a 'CHANGE STAKE' button. This allows you to play on say, 30p-74% or 50p-80%.
Thirdly, the extra percentage is only available on the higher (50p)stake, otherwise a 30p player could come along and win all the extra money inserted. The reward is for 'gamlbers'.
And finally, a machine staked 50p will return to 30p after a brief period of none play so that munters do not inadvertantly spend their dole in 4 spins of the reel.

Yep I agree With Skill.
Ok, cheers for the responses.
All sounds complex. But its very good that a "gambling" mode exists, giving a little back...
Dont know much about 73% strange, maybe 72/74 and yeah, the program offers a 6% bonus for playing the Higher stake and as its a very clever computer it does not pay that 6% bonus on its total cash in/out status... otherwise you disable the change stake key... after a while... enable an reap rewards.
