Question Digital Counter - next to/near coin slot

I've noticed on some machines there is a digital counter next to or near the coin slot. Does anyone know what this is for?

I guess it doesn't give away any valuable info as that would be a bit obvious, but out of curiosity I am keen to know.

    Thanks
    IanF

Is it the model of the machine? Like the 400th off the line or something- although those numbers get pretty high so probably not

Just did a searchand apparently it is the refil meter- it counts all the pound coins that go through the machine when it is refilled using a refill key apparently

For christ's sake, it is just a digital version of the old black reels with white numbers on which did the same thing on the old tube paying mahcines.

If managers refill them properly with key via slot, (instead of just tipping coins in hopper like most do) it will clock up coins inserted. This is the type of refilling that occurs after short payouts, when machine has iou bank on it. Not the weekly floating refill when the cashbox is used to tip coins in the hopper and fill it up full, then the balance is the arcades profit - in this case tipping coins in is OK.
In the case of spo's the tally on the meter (if refilled by key and slot) gives an indication of running spo balance to subtract from the net coinbox profit.

I.e over 2 years the net cashbox profit after routine weekly hopper-fills is 4,500, but the meter had 1250 on it, so the machines net profit is 3250 which should tally with the percentage it is set on.
