Fantaztec: two invincible modes?

I know I've mentioned this machine before on this forum and it is rather old, but the one near me still plays well and I have noticed something that I don't fully understand and was wondering if anyone else had too.
This machine has a very obvious invicible mode, which as you exchange into the feature sees the display reading 'Go for Gold!' and the eyes of the little man to the right of the main Fantaztec logo flash continuously during play until the top red streak is obtained. However, I have also noticed that very occasionally when you exchange to play the feature, whilst it does not say 'Go for Gold', the little man's eyes flash a couple of times, then remain on as they do during normal play. Every time this has happened I have been able to go on to get the top red streak or a JP. Therefore, I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this? Is it just another, less obvious invicible mode or something else? I have never seen a machine with two different invincible modes... (maybe something to watch out for if you hadn't noticed this before?)

Also, I am still having trouble with the notempole/ super hold manipulator, as it is so old I was hoping someone could pm me with some clearer advice- it would be greatly appretiated!

The manipulator I mean is the freeplay / super next method. I know it can take ages, and many people found this macihine fairly boring, but I acually quite enjoy playing it.
