The only skill left in fruit machines is how to extract notes from cashiers when you are on a winning streak, although ironically it's easier these days as you can quote the s16 payouts when they claim they have no notes.
I've never seen anyone do 'chip tricks' with their pound coins, poker players love to do that stuff.
Only other skill elements involved in playing these days are the art of subtlety when in a country pub or keeping some hostile managment/bar staff on side when it counts.
Skill to do with the actual playing of fruities...er nah, can't think of anything. Does ready steady go count ?
Confucius say "man who know wombat know more than stupid looking monkey"
Confucius also say "man who know Kebab has 60 inch waist"
Confucius finally add "man may deal, but man may not 'know' deal"

Hummm..... intresting comments. I was one of those (and still am) 3 pound players (as someone mentioned in a previous post) and 'play' once in a blue moon!

I was just curious as to how you all defined 'skill' in fruit machines - obviously from the response there isnt much!

I can appreciate obtaining valuable information, like last time to drop & last player etc etc.... but as i predicted in a previous post on this thread "no skill involved - just luck"....

You should all venture venture over to the poker forum and take past in the freerolls.... why waste your money on a game of luck - its going to run out at somepoint! At with least poker you have some sort of say in how and when you lose your money!

Good point, free game of poker most weeks with just members of this forum, normally tuesdays but with the world cup its changed a bit, keep an eye out at the poker tournaments section and theres normally a sign up thread for the next game...dont play ace rag as a good hand though, its just not worth the abuse.

I wouldn't go that far, it's not "just luck" - there is still knowledge, and the application of that knowledge, and learning how far to push a machine, when not to push at all, and that sort of stuff, when it comes to playing AWPs these days - but in all honesty I'd say it's learned behaviour, almost instinct, rather than genuine skill.

And there's no getting away from the fact that it's mostly just the force, recognising a few basic signs (which you could train a dog to do), or if you're really lucky, get a proper cheat/manipulator/empty ahead of everyone else.

On the other hand, if you're talking about consistently hitting a Shoot Em Up on Arcadia for a JP, or a normal Roman Reels on Caesar's Palace for the red sevens, or Stop 'N Step on Cashbuster for a JP - yep, you're into the realms of true skill - but you're going back a few years.

(And go back further than that to Barcrest machines such as Cash Zone if you want, with a real true skill Skill Cash feature that could empty the machine every time if you were good enough - but we're back to about 1991 there )

Modern fruities are a seriously glum affair - playing them for profit is too much like sharing the scraps with the rest of the chavs, and playing them for fun is too much like no fun at all.

    In short - don't bother
No links to anywhere from me mofos!

this thread should be in the newb section but never mind.

There are two elements of skill. The first is actual skill, ie being able to hit fast snop and steps for JP etc. These features are almost obselete now so doesnt apply much.

The second defininition of skill comes from knowing when to walk and when to play. In the good old days certain machines (JPMs)machines would show you within 1 pound if it was worth it or not just from the numbers spinning on the reel. 20 quid profit in minutes and off you went to the next.

I have always been the type of player who likes to get on and off the machine as fast as possible. Rather make 10 quid in a few minutes per machine on lots of machines than sit on one machine for hours. The art of 'steals' is actualy a third skill :P

When machines were good and there werent many players, luck was hardly a factor. You went out every day and made 100-300 quid. It was that simple. It was a job. And a very pleasing one.

I personaly dont think you can compare poker and fruity playing. Fruity playing now is fucking nails to make regular consistent money. and if you are still making regular, then its definately more time consuming than it used to be (unless you have one emptieable that you do once a week AND that is the only thing you play).

I love poker now, but still enjoy a day out slotting. edit - (once in a while).
