I know this is the fruit machine part of the forum, but I reckon I will hopefully get more feedback here cos the other parts of the forum aren't as busy as here.
Basically, I've been dry betting with a new system for horse racing for the past month and this month, it has proved very successful and the stats from last year would have made a nice profit.
The only problem is that there are only usually around 7 to 11 bets per month during the flat, so I'd need to stake around £250 EW on each bet. Plus I have to wait pretty much before the off, anyone know whether internet bookmakers will accept a £250 EW (£500 total) on a horse race just before the off?
I've heard bookmakers can be ruthless in setting max stakes for customers who may be able to beat them, just wondering if any of you guys have any experience or know of this?
Cheers

In the context of horse betting £250 ew is small time i'm afraid.
Any major high street bookie would accept a £250 each way bet any time before the start of a race and probably after the off in many cases.
Should the price be bigger than maybe 12/1 they may have to phone it through to head office for confirmation although this is usually just to lay some of it off. The fact that you are placing the bet just before the off shouldn't be a problem as I believe they are in constant contact with other firms for this exact situation.

depends what sort of horse betting i guess. a £500 bet to me sounds massive, but i don't do horses, save £2.50 or so ew on the national. do you bet that much james? you would have to be bloody certain of the result to, although that simply re confirms my belief that horse and dog racing is fixed anyhow.
you are living proof that god has a sense of humour.
No not personally although a close friend will bet like that day in day out.
£100 ew, £200 win on a weekly basis. Even £500 ew on occasions.
He does often lose £3000 in the space of a couple of weeks but then again will often have £200 ew on a 6/1 and pick close to £2000 up.
Has good knowledge and isn't addicted as such just very interested in horses and trusts his own judgement etc. Tipped Motivator to win the Derby at the back end of last year and now after todays display it's 2/1 fav I believe. Although he also had over £300 on it to win the gunieas Ante Post and it was pulled out ()
He can, like many of us, quite easily make £500 a week on the machines with a bit of effort (doesn't work) but spends alot of time during the afternoons in the bookies. Does make profit on average across the week / month although probably not as much as he would if he stuck to just the machines.
Personally I stick to £10's and £20's and the occasional £50.

I know it is a small stake, I've seen a bloke put £9,000 on a bet in a bookies in Liverpool.
I was talking more about internet bookmakers to be honest- would it be the same? Plus, it is £250 EW so the bet will be £500 a go...
If your system is as good/reliable as you say it is, you will come across problems after a while. If you consistenly take money off a bookie whether it be online or highstreet they will put limits on your stakes.
Go on betfair. No limits, no problems.
With laddys the other week i put a bet on 2 mins before the race so you can bet online just before they run.
Any time you aggressively play seven deuce off suit, the universe will bend the laws of short term probability in order to re-balance the long term probability abuses by those trashy players who only play premium hands
I know, but it is hard to find people willing to lay a horse with £500! Some of them go for high prices but some only go for £33 so it's difficult to use the exchanges.Originally Posted by Illunga Mwepu
I'll see how it goes online anyway, I could always open a few accounts and do it that way and on the odd day just pop into the bookies- it's only about 10 bets a month anyway...
I put a £10 bet on the winner of the national via ladbrokes. So what I hear you say??
Well, there where only 4 fences left...... got 3-1 though![]()

I am really interested in horse racing but only the flat, never even had a small bet on the national or hurdles races.
Some girl in my work got the winner also. Her method for picking the winner?
"The jockey had the prettiest colours in his top..." So if I ever bet on the national, I'm going with that![]()
