had a great weekend - profitable and, more importantly enjoyable - which is a damn rare thing these days. but last night took the biscuit

popped to a few pubs on my way home to update my locs list, not really playing and only had about £12 in coins on me and a nifty in notes.

spotted a 'top dog' in a friendly tucked away place, thought id give it a quick whirl. bought a pint and a cigar (new habit, they're quite nice) stuck a quid in. first credit 'let em spin' for cherries and i look up to see 3 jp symbols 2 above winline!! exchange with 5 nudges, go round the board a couple of times &i get golden hold for the cheapest JP ever - 25p. then repeats causing the guy next to me to almost drop his pint

poor bugger must have said about five times - why didnt i go on that one - as he proceeded to plough the best part of £40 into a cbw. i had to hang around as i hadnt even touched my drink before being £49.00 up and anyway he was a pleasant guy to chat to. as he went to bar for change i offered to buy him a pint - which he accepted - but to put the icing on the cake the bar lady didnt charge me

ive bought three lottery tickets on the back of this - wish me luck folks!

Did she purposely not charge you or did she simply forget?

I have had almost the same experience, well, there was no 3rd party, and no free drinks involved but i did manage to take £75 from a big cheese for £1 (3 credits).

Sadly the Top Dog standing next to it wasnt so generous.

As soon as i saw him pumping coins in a CBW i'd have sinked the drink and got out.

While he may have been nice to chat to, questions will be asked when you do the same thing in a fortnight now you have associated yourself. Its easy to get friendly with watching locals when you dump a good profit like that but i always regret it next time i visit when they're straight over to you with. "Hello mate, I've just took 60 out of this."

.....only to find its backing 1st pound. Why do they always lie?

    barmaid just forgot

i know the pub quite well and am known in it as the 'fruity guy'. its a balancing act thing - in some pubs (the real quiet ones or the shit ones with just a handful of regulars) its best to keep your head down play and leave after playing. in others i find it better to be friendly and open, i'll even give useful tips at times - 'dont play that i just got X' or some way of playing say a Cas Explosion - where the info itself is of little use without skill and readiness to stake £30/40 minimum.

its all judgement i guess - no lie but in some pubs i visit once every 2 weeks i know staff who tell me which ones to play and not - shit one even let me plug a JP & the BS (only time iv'e done it)! each time i take more than £20 in profit i make sure to buy them a drink

couldnt stiff the guy on cbw, just didnt have the heart to do it. Actually told him when he had the invisible IM as he was going to take the £25 cash amount instead of mega streak. scruples - i got 'em

    Yes I agree Top.

I remember a Wombat in Chicago Rock over Xmas.

Was in most nights (quick in / out) for £20 profit.

The young bar men soon realised what i was up to so i made a point of giving them a fiver on the way out one day and said get yourselves a drink.

Its best to keep locals / bar staff happy and satisfy your own satisfaction of being able to go to location 'x' without any trouble.

    This always happens to me.

I had one guy approach me to say "That just dropped £70 10 mins ago i wouldn't play if i was you". Just to humor myself i asked what he won Mega Streak?? Then i got the reply of "No no not that just rolled in straight away" after asking how he mumbled something and carried on watching. After a while JP came and he had perked up saying "Yeah mate thought that was gonna pay soon"

Good to see there are some gentleman of this sport. Making conversation, slipping a tip where necessary and general good manners will keep the profits healthy. It's amazing how uncomfortable I feel when collecting a large bank from an unknown location, even if I've put a lot in aswell. On the other hand local haunts as you say who know you I have no probs with just playing hard an fast with no beating around the bush.
I remember the time when I had 6 Wombats within a 3 mile radius. I nearly thought I'd have to wear disguises as the visits to each one increased.
Confucius say "man who know wombat know more than stupid looking monkey"
Confucius also say "man who know Kebab has 60 inch waist"
Confucius finally add "man may deal, but man may not 'know' deal"

Yeah i hate collecting a big bank in a pretty quiet unknown pub, myself just to be safe i spread the collecting over £5's or so.

Over time you just get the feeling for who to keep sweet i.e barman, the nutter with the knife who just lost £100 on a machine before you got to the pub.

For some pubs that are very good for machines where its a small village and everyone who goes in knows everyone else its worth my while becomming a local...Pop in as your passing for half a pint now and again (Do not play more than a the change from pint) and do the "yeah just passing Bob (barman whos name you get after 2 or 3 visits) on my way to Huddersfield". Have lunch (if they do it) and doing this every now and again keeps you local so your not "that guy who comes in every couple of months and does the machines".

Its just a good idea to alter your tatics to the situation.

Come on, its not that bad.

I manage to play the centre of town on busy nights (friday, saturday) regularly alone and have never once had any trouble. "In", "Out", job done.

I've said it before and i'll say it again, people who constantly get trouble whilst playing are simply going about things the wrong way.
