refill keys legal or illegal

i want to know the truth because ive heard so many opinions

Although is is not illegal to own or use a refill key, if a member of staff from an arcade sees you using one on their machines, they will know exactly what you are upto and you are highly likely to get barred!!!

If you are in....say a pub or bowling alley and a landlord/manager or members of staff see you fiddling with a key on one of their machines, they are more likely to think you are trying to open or defraud the machine, which may result in them phoning the police.

This can be very bad, especially if you have got a shit load of pound coins in your pocket, the immediate conclusion the dibble will come to is that you have stolen the money from the machines.

I have heard nightmare stories about people having their computers and winnings confiscated (including money at home) and struggling to get it back even when found innocent. (these are obviously extreme cases)

So, careful how and when you use one, if in doubt, keep it in your pocket

Is it me or does the poll question not make any sense in terms of a yes or no answer? Anyway, refill keys are perfectly legal to own and to use, as they do not affect the payout of the machine in any way (apart from certain Bell Fruits, where the use in this case is I believe illegal??????)

It's how they are USED that is the question - as crazy points out with the old Bell Fruit dumping and override error.

In that case of course, their use would be illegal, as pecuniary advantage has taken place.

I agree, the poll is badly worded - it should say "..is the use of refill keys illegal?"

I've heard they aren't illegal, but watched a regular bandit player in the city centre followed around all day by CID after various pub managers reported him for using his key. They arrested him later in the day and took everything off him. I can't imagine a magistrate trying to understand the logistics of it not manipulating the payout. They seem to be cracking down on players more than they ever have does anyone else agree?
