I see "flickering" referred to a lot on this site, "flickering board" for example, what does this mean please?

Thanks and sorry for the blatant ignorance.

Also trying to understand what the term IM means. As in "pass up an IM".

ok IM is invincible mode. same as flickering. usually when you have an IM board, the logo will either flicker (flash) or turn red. on many machines now the alpha display will also say 'superfeature'. this just means you cannot lose. just spin your way to jackpot!
on some machines it is advantageous to turn down an IM, for example by collecting £1. this can help to start a streak or, as in Jackpoteers, allow you to empty the machine.

Thank you, and my apologies for not putting this on the "newbie board".

I guess if you want serious profit you have to be prepared to have the serious boldness to turn down invincible mode!

    Charred,

To boldly go where nobody has ever gone before. Nah seriously its not as crazy as it sounds. Same kind of things goes for turning down trueskill JP repeats (Austin Powers etc).

The hard part....is when your trying to kill an IM board....and random punter says....here mate...you've got jackpot there and tries to tell you what to do!!!!

    Ehr....*cough*.....really?

Had this myself a few months back on an early chip BB, had the "reel Majic is jackpot, you have it in view".

Do i take the adive and keep the machine to myslef but a wasted journery this time or do i carry on knocking stuff back??

Had to take it to keep him shut...

but its the way things go, sometimes you have to do things to keep machines yours.

Also a bit of advice, keep an eye out for pubs with mirrors...i fucked up and let the local shark of this place in on some info by not checking that hye could see my playing by standing in a certain position near the bar. Stupid i know but it happens. One less decent location for me.

Agreed. Sack it and live to fight another day.

The mirrors thing is funny, as I was actually spying on one of the pros near me the other day like this. All is fair in love and war right?

    Not any more.

I always used to get watched doing these, and I'm damned if I'm going to sack a machine I'm into deep just because some goggled eyed losers are watching(landlords are a different story)..
The people who are prepared to do stuff like that are already doing it,the ones who watch don't have the nerve to try.
It's different if you have an easy peasy trick(like TB,SRAR/HLW etc).Stuff like that has to be done very discreetly.

i know that jptters is old. i was using it as an easy example. and still sacking IM can still occasionaly be used. take high and mighty for example, not the latest but fairly recent (ish) use of sacking IM can lead to you emptying the mc.
