    Only if

I heard this myth a few years back especially around the time of the over rated 'Millennium Bug', me and the lads were waving our phones around every fruit machine in Cannock to no avail... Anyway, on most Nokia phones there is an IR facility but that is no use, as it is not multi-wave when transmitting. I've heard that nearly all machines have different IR frequencies this is due to make, model, manufacturer etc. But I am VERY intrigued by the multi-wave IR devices you can buy on the web, especially imported ones from the USA. Very risky though!

The only use a mobile phone has is to store number sequences when offered follow me features (1,2,2,3,1,3 etc.).

I have a rich mate who has an IR device that opens his front gates from half a mile away... I might try pointing it at a machine in my local. The answer to your question is no, but I wish there was a way to manipulate a fruity with a phone. I believe every mobile phone owning fruit machine player would agree.

We would all be millionaires if it worked and it would probably be the worst kept secret in the fruit machine fraternity!

I've bought one of the IR devices from the web around 1 month ago.

So far - It doesn't work. What you get is a box that resembles a Key Fob, the kind that might alarm a car. This quite definately is a SONIC device - it even has a sonic standards mark on the back of the unit.

I received mine - it cost £65 - and you get:

    * Key fob (with 'CHIP' written on it in marker pen)
    * Infra red diode (separate - sellotaped to the side of the fob)
    * Instructions.

The instructions CLAIM that you can use the box WITHOUT yourself having to solder the diode onto the circuit board (apparently they can't do that, as it makes the device illegal to ship) - then you get told that it only works at a certain angle (of about 10 degrees or something) - but they don't relate to how you should hold it or anything.

They also tell you how you need to unsolder a component on the circuit board, then attach the diode.

What boggles me is that sonic wavelengths are on a COMPLETELY different part of the spectrum - so how on earth can it work without having the IR diode soldered on???

I'm going to attempt the diode, but if it is just a key fob from an alarm, there's little hope it will work.

My advice is don't waste your money - if I get it to work, I'll let you know, but don't hold your breath.

I'm sorry if I offend anyone who sells these things, and they genuinely do work - but I have to say - it all seems like a great scam with no comeback to the buyer - a great way to recover your lost ££££'s that you've plumbed into the machines. Also - if they really do work effectively, then why are people not keeping them to themselves to empty machines?

Its all a big mystery!!! Anyone else had a similar experience, or got them to work?

I have been into a couple of pubs where there have been signs up on the walls saying no mobile phones near the fruit machines, and have even been kicked out of somewhere when texting whilst playing one!
Up to now ive read about possibilities about infared and emissions from the phones that could maybe disrupt machines but didnt know whether to believe it, thought maybe they thought i was using my phone to gain instant access to a website like this for immediate help or something or texting someone who knew certain machines etc, but it has become quite clear that there are people using mobile phones to somehow cheat the machines, just wondering if anyone else had encountered this, or knew anything about it?

ITS NO MYSTERY - THEY DO NOT WORK

HOW MANY TIMES MUST PEOPLE BE TOLD

ASK YOURSELF, WOULD SOMETHING THAT EMPTIES MACHINES CARRYING £125 AT A TIME BE SOLD FOR HALF THAT AMOUNT?

THERE IS NO EASY ROUTE TO PROFIT THROUGH FRUIT MACHINES

THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE, MAINLY ACHIEVED THROUGH LOSING

THE MOST IMPORTANT SKILL IS DISCIPLINE

It might have worked in the past as I believe the hoppers counted coins with light barries and you could some how affect this by pointing some sort of infrared beam or laser up the coin slot. I am certain this will be shielded in all machines from the past few years at least. They will NOT work on any machines around now I am sure. As for mobiles.. yes they can and do interfere with many electronic devices but I doubt they would force a machine to mess up its payouts. All 'devices' that claim to affect a machine externally are more likely just scams.
Why has it come to this?
