You want the bad players to get worse - not get better. Therefore - Stats should be paid for by the sensible players with PT and HEM.
Think thats what Dan's gettin at.
Never used OPR but I find Sharkscope really useful when I play HU games. It's really easy to know exactly how these people will play based on just their ROIs and profit/losses.
But this isn't banter, banter is fun, fun is encouraged! What this does is end up stopping fish from playing.
People have to believe they are better than they are for it all to remain profitable for those who win (see my comment in scrote's sig). When you have sites out there which show exactly how much money these people have lost, it becomes harder for people to convince themselves they are winners. Especially when people keep reminding them of it.
When fish stop playing, profits drop for everyone and more and more people become unproftable. This is why these sites are bad. In the short term you gain a very negligible edge, but in the long term it actually hurts you.
Walking away is easy. The hard part is standing up.
I kind of disagree with this. Seeing a chart that says they've lost 50k proportionately over 2000 games isn't enough to convince the sort of idiots who this happens to that they're bad players. If they get flamed in the chatbox by people pointing out their losses they're more likely to just get a new account and keep up the donkiness than actually quit.
I agree with everything thats been said here, its common sense.
I know the classier reaction would be to say "wp sir"and walk away, when you bubble in a 50,100,200 euro sng to a muppet call,i find it so hard tho. Maybe why ive had numerous chat bans:P
I find im alot calmer these days tho.
I have mixed feelings about all this. I can see where FT are coming from, but I'm not sure the information gleaned is THAT useful, regardless of what many people say...
The site in question (OPR) has some fantastic information and yes, you use it to get a feel for who is a good player and who (probably) isn't at your table, but the results can be so misleading to be anything other than a rough guide. For example, a losing player at low stakes may have had one good cash at some point and have a positive ROI. Likewsie, someone with a negative ROI may be a good player but with a limited sample range of games played. Also, OPR doesn't take into account cash play, nor does it (for 'Stars) take into account any SNG less than 28-man. So someone could be a losing MTT player but a winning SNG player but this wouldn't be reflected in the numbers.
And no matter how bad or good a player is, it doesn't guarantee that they will play well or badly in that particular session, and seeing as poker really is a game where a beginner can roll up and win a tournament if they get lucky then it is dangerous to interpret any of these sites statistics in a manner which will influence your play there and then. Far better to watch how people are playing, observe and then tailor your play to suit. Regardless of their OPR numbers.
Yeah its only really good for showing ppl with big samples. Ive seen plenty of ppl in the black but small sample and they play like retards and vice versa (in the red but pretty solid).
If youre playing full ring sngs you shouldnt really need sharkscope at all as i t should be blooming obv whos who after the first 3 levels.
Same goes for mtts, although getting moved tables damages this statement in the later stages.
