    Default Holdem Manager

I've decided to trial Holdem Manager, it's taken me what seems like forever to get it going but I think it's up & running now. Obv it's a massive tool but in terms of just starting out, what are the main stats I should concentrate on? I'm thinking it'll be easier to start with fairly basic analysis & build up gradually, otherwise it'll all just be jibberish! I haven't been playing too long anyway - I'm basically at the stage where I'm just about good enough to realise how rubbish I actually am, if that makes sense! lol. I am going to be playing micro cash games (as well as the odd tournament still for fun), hoping to learn the game and build a bankroll. I haven't really played cash to date.

Any advice please much appreciated, ta.

Depends on what you're playing (edit: just seen micro cash but six handed or full ring?) but for the most simple HUD you need just four stats:

    VPIP
    PFR
    AF
    No of hands

If you want to add some more in:
    3-bet%
    C-bet%
    Steal %
    Fold to c-bet%

I have mine set to the default that it starts you off on which i think has all of the above and maybe some others, i forget.

Also if you're playing Stt's then you need to go to HUD Options>Additional HUD Filters and tinker with the Filter for # of players. This is because a player will play markedly different when 9 handed in an stt than when 6 handed, 3 handed etc.

Thanks for that. I'm going to be playing full-ring cash games at micro stakes in order to gather info on my game / see where I'm at.

I had a look at the STT filter you mentioned - understand exactly what you mean but not sure what to alter the filters to as don't want to distort future stats?

Also, I've deposited $50 on Stars - what stakes should I be looking at in terms of suitable bankroll management?

You want the $0.005 and $0.01 tables.

FWIW i play a lot on Stars and am a fan of it for many reasons but if you want to play micro cash it is not the best choice for you. If you like the convenience of stars, then perhaps look at signing up for Full Tilt through The Hendon Mob so you can get rakeback, if not them then perhaps Party Poker or Poker.co.uk, which all offer softer games than stars.

As for bankroll management this depends, if your bankroll is protected - as in if you lose the $50 you can re-deposit - it's markedly different than if you lose it you're busto. It also depends on if you multi table of not. If you want to be ultra safe play $0.01/0.02 with 25 buy-ins but i'd say take a shot at $0.02/$0.05 but move down in stakes if you drop below $40 and do not move up to $0.05/$0.10 until you have $200 and if you get to that point and drop back below $150 then drop back down again.

    Good luck with the grind.

Ok, thanks for your help. Losing the $50 bankroll isn't the end of the world, I'm more concerned at this point with learning the game - where I need to improve etc - and hopefully Holdem Manager will help me analyse my game / reassess it ... if I can ever figure it out!!! Thanks for that anyway.

That would be great Dan if you don't mind, thanks. What sort of sample should I be looking at to account for variance too?
