Are there any decent books/ articles out there that talk about when to play, what to play, when to defend etc? As like many im sure this is one area where i tend to lose chips by either folding too lightly or defending too much.
One Example (I know ill get slated for it)
Middle of tourney, ave stacks 14k but blinds now a chunky 1k/500.
Im in Big Blind with 10k behind. Small Blind has about 17k (Good player, tight aggressive though has attacked blinds previously)
Small Blind raises to 2.5k.
I have A9 diamonds - what should my action be? Call, Fold or Raise All in.
The hand actually went:
I call. Flop comes 5d, 5c kd.
SB Checks
Me All in with Nut Diamond Draw.
SB Calls and shows J5, his trips hold up.
Have a google for this but there is an article out there (IIRC mainly aimed at SnG) which gives a mathematical "proof" that is is ALWAYS +ev to shove from SB OR BB, with ATC, ....Provided that:
- either party has <13 BB's behind and;
- everyone has folded to the blinds

I think this is a pretty clear shove PF. Would be more difficult if we were a little deeper stacked or the SB was a real bad nit.

Hmm we need a read on Mr SB, don't we? Why is he raising? Because he is stealing light or actually HAS a hand and wants to build a pot? #2 seems unlikely, 8/10 he gets a flod, and only picks up the BB. Hindsight is wonderful here as we see he has raggy rags, and gets a lucky flop, obv we should have RR/shoved. I think even w/o the hindsight I am RR/shoving here. Calling is pants here. Where are we if flop comes Axx? All our chippies are going in anyway, might as well get 'em in first?
