Hien! Ibis and Mercure are the same company, Mercure being slightly downmarket of Ibis. I have stayed in 100's of Ibis hotels and plenty of Mercures. It strikes me as strange that a company should be in direct competition with itself in so many ways. In a lot of French towns you will find a business park with a Novotel, Ibis, Mercure, Etap, and Formule 1 hotels next to each other. They are ALL part of ACCOR group. Novotels are usually >100E whereas Formule 1 can be as little as 20E. It seems to me that Mercure, Etap and F1 are all built to the same building plan, but they have to deliberately have to make F1's horrid to justify charging double for the same room next door, So purple/mauve décor, coldwhite fluorescent tube lighting, plastic shower trays etc, so that people who can afford to pay 35E will do so, whilst the genuinely skint will go for the lowest price, no matter what. I used to book Ibis because I usually work late, and Ibis are staffed 24h whereas F1 and Etap have no-one on duty after 10pm. YMMV, esp in the UK as their policies may well differ.

I'm almost impressed. I work in accor central reservations in london so know the hotels worldwide like the back of my hand. You must have stayed in some grotty mercures cos they're 3-4 star. Mostly 4 in UK. The accor brands Etap and Formule1 are 1 star budget hotels. Ibis is 2. Mercure 3-4. Novotel 3-4. Sofitel 4-5.

The Bristol mercures are both really nice but the ibis isn't. Ibis are generally shit imo - 24hrreception would be standard at all bar etap and formule1.

Still. You know accor pretty well. 7/10.
