if you are in a tournament and below the average chips, but the chip leader on your table, which is more important? Should you start making moves to get your chips up? Or is the fact that you have a good position on your table enough to play it safe for a while?

I don't have a lot of tournament experience, but i suppose that, since most of the money can be earned in the top places (1st, 2nd, 3th), it would be best to try to build a high stack in the early phases of the tournament.

This is almost an impossible question to answer. It depends on how below the average stack size you are, how many chips you have left, what your stack size is in relation to the blinds, how many other players are left to the money, does the chip leader and any others have very large stacks so that even though you are below average there are lots of players worse than you, is the large stack to your left or to your right? If you push into a big stack he might just call for chips and giggles, if there is a short stack, they might be desperate to call with anything.....
