best way to learn

ive been playin poker for a while, but have only recently been playing "proper" poker, and have recently bought harrington 1 and 2, and am working my way through these. i was previously playing at a casino, with buy ins of 30, rebuy 30, but since buying these books and deciding to play lower stakes poker, have started to play lower stakes at a local pub.
this is for 5 pound a time, in a league.
my question is, will i gain more experience, and learn more, playing with better players in the casino, or is playin every week, albeit at a ower level, a better plan?
iam currently a student, but hope to be a doctor within a year, so this gives an idea of finances.
the players at my pub league are a mixed bunch.
i have noticed that they play ace high , for example, to showdown, despite bets on the flop, turn and river.
i am thinking i will play this season out with this league, but was wondering if playing less poker, at a higher level, would be more beneficial as a learning experience.

I tried a poker league at my local about a year ago, there were about 10 of us. To say the least it was a joke. We had players that would go all in completely blind every other hand, most of them didnt really know what was going on. As far as experience goes though I think playing as much as possible at different levels can only be a good thing. Just dont expect too much from it.

I say stick with the league - in my experience league players are not much worse than casino players. Sure you get casino regulars who have a clue, but many are also packed with muppets who go along for a night out with their mates for some beer and cards.

I play in the Live Poker League (these forums host their message boards) and the standard is good. Sure there are idiots who decide to reraise you with middle pair to 'protect their hands', but there are a heck of a lot of decent players who can certainly hold their own against any amateur crowd.

two weeks ago someone from my league brought along a card with the hand rankings on "so they didnt forget". Is it still worth going too? I cant bluff or make any plays cos they dont really know how to play.

however, there are some good players. is it wordsth it to stay on and try to play these guys every week?
