I had limped in to a multiway pot with a mediocre hand, let's say A9
;
The flop came 8 10 8, and all four checked.
Turn 10.
Check, check, SHOVE.
All fold.
Shover shows............. 5 5!
Out of the 1,326 possible hands he is only beating 2,2; 2,3; 2,4; 3,3; 3,4; 4,4; 2,5; 3,5; 4,5;
Is this a cretin, or an inspired bluff play?
"That's a typical shabby Nazi trick, Wilson"
He's not really beating most of those hands as the river would more than likely split the pot against them.
As to whether it was inspired or idiotic it depends on how much thought went into it. It's easy for an idiot to make this play but it definitely can be made by a decent player like myself. In fact I've done the same thing under the gun on the turn before. I would probably only do it live though. Online it's just too hard to tell whether anybody has anything or not.
Without knowing the stack sizes, its hard to say whether its a good move or not. No-one showed any strength throughout the hand, so if he was fairly shortstacked then it could be a speculative shot at taking it down there and then by representing a ten, which isn't that bad a play if he needs to make a move. The actual cards were probably totally irrelevant to him I would guess.
Of course, he could have just been thick and not thinking, but I'd probably give him the benefit of the doubt![]()
It would be better if you pasted the whole hand history to really determine what was going on.
Not much point putting just a brief description, to analyse the play we gotta have position, stack sizes, blinds etc. Little bit of knowledge of your opponents is always good too.
Unless it was a live game oc.
Thats not a fh play, depends what the stack sizes were, seems pretty lame, dont think i'd show a hand like that unless i wanted to put some players on tilt and draw people into a looser game.
