Was listening to the 2+2 poker podcast earlier, or rather to be specific - one from about nine months ago, and they were talking about the Pokerstars WSOP satellite qualifiers and how many people were just banking the cash and not going to the event (Harrahs doesn't allow direct buy-in to the WSOP, so if you win an internet qualifier you get the money in your account instead).
So if you (hypothetically) entered a qualifier and won, then would you take the (poss once in a lifetime) opportunity to play in the worlds most prestigious poker tourney whilst being put up by Pokerstars in a plush hotel and with a grands pocket money courtesy of the site (not to mention the extras you get if you wind up on the featured table at some point etc etc)...or.....
Do you think fuck it, transfer out the $10k and blow it on drugs/hookers/car/holiday/kitchen etc?
Its a tough call, which is probably why so many didn't show up the other year

I'd be in Vagas, no doubt.
Today, I have mostly been : ...
No way could I justify spending £6-7 grand (whatever the exhange rate is) on a poker tournament, so I'd have to withdraw it and not go.
Although I would maybe have a holiday in Vegas and play one of the $1500 events

Yup. WSOPME FTW.
Face it, you are NEVER going to pay $10k of your own money to enter that game, so the only way you'll ever do it is if you win your way in.
If your broke and unemployed I could understand the decision to take the cash, and if your a complete anal maths head then you can argue that its simply not a +EV move to play the tourney blah blah blah but dont we all play poker, to some degree or other, for the love of the game? the challenge? the competition? And that is all epitomised in playing the Main Event.
From the quality of the posts on this forum i'd say that pretty much ALL the regular's would have a good chance of making the money at least. And then you've doubled your 10k and can have all the new kitchens you want! Lol.
Or if you want me to be really pedantic i'd say go out and win 2 sats to the main event, keep 1 seat to play and cash the other...... problem solved.![]()
Same as you dan
I play poker for the challenge and competition over money. I'd definitely play if I was lucky enough to qualify (and get the time off work!)
Hookers and blow ftw!!! Poker tournaments are a bag of shit no matter what the buy in!!
Walking away is easy. The hard part is standing up.
Viva Las Vegas, baby!
Sod playing the main event. $10k worth of hookers and one very red cock ftw
Ibreasts and muffs
