I was in the casino last week for a £10 double chance which effectively turned into a £20.00 freezeout after the add on period with 60 players and just about 180,000 chips in play and managed to get to the final table.
When it got to the final five, the blinds were 3000/6000 and I was in the big blind with 48000 and pocket Jacks. It went fold fold, then the button called and the sb made it up, so I raised it up another 15000. The button instantly calls and the small blind folded. The button has 33k back after calling so has me just covered.
I put the button pretty much on Ace-King or Ace queen so think that as long as the flop doesnt bring an Ace king queen im in good shape.
The flop actually comes down Q-Q-2 and I am now almost certain im ahead, and changed my mind to instant shoving, but then think checking is just way too risky to let him check behind and see a free one, so put my 27k in the middle. The button then blew out his cheeks and sat back and went into the tank, so now i am absolutely certain he has ace-king.
Now heres my dilemma, and my question to you. Would you attempt to talk the other player into calling, if you know he is on a draw that will kill you if it hits, talk him into folding saying things like "you cant all for all your chips with Ace-King" etc and just pick up a nice 48k pot, or just sit there saying nothing and leave him to make up his own mind?
Im not really asking if shoving pre flop is a better choice as that isnt what i did, just what would you do if you are in this position now.
At this point in tourney I am normally drunk, so I would laugh at him, give him the middle finger, get my nose bitten off, but still win the tourney.![]()
Dumb Ass
I would do it in ANY possible situation or scenario. I think all poker players should go the extra mile to make the game feature new antics... apart from the ones that can exploit obviously.
I would like to think in any casino, any poker game even if televised, if I want to say something... go ahead and say or do it... poker to me is all about spontaneity, and if there's no characters or liveliness around the table, then its a sad state of affairs IMO...

As it was I didnt say anything because I couldnt actually make up my mind if I wanted a call or not, he eventually called, showed the inevitable Ace-King, then hit an Ace on the turn, and that got me into thinking if I should have talked him out of doing it..... but then he called when he was miles behind so I should have wanted him to call but just not got lucky.
That's what I love about Live Poker... you can get yourself into all sorts of different situations and handle them different each time, yet review after and maybe had gone down a different route.
What I mean about the talking point, was if you are not a talkative player and then all of a sudden start gassing like crazy he's gonna think wtf? What I am getting at, is the whole play you have at that table affects every upcoming scenario...
In this particular scenario, I would've probably fiddled with my chips as if I'm not scared to push and give him the sternest look I could ever give someone, in the hope he would fold.
Dependant on other factors, it could be worth a check to let him check behind for his freebie, for him to miss and ace/king on the turn and then check, let him bet, shove all in... bluff him for queens?

If it is a new table and i dont know the players i would keep stum. If you win a few hands early with e.g pkt and flop trips, I would bet hard ( callers or not ) then show hand. Do this a couple of times, Then when you need a tricky call /fold, Any player with half a nonce will remember the earlier hands. Then he talkes to bill on his left shoulder who says call and mary on his right who says fold ( as you know girls are always right ) you boys are only right when we tell you you are.
