Never have i been into a casino, not for any reason i just have never thought of it until i have read some interesting stories in the forum. I have never sat a live poker table and am just basically asking what i can expect, i have all sorts of questions.
1. Is there a realistic amount of money that i can spend?
2. Should i change my strategy when playing live?
3.Should i buy some stupid sunglasses?
Suggestions would be apprieciated.![]()
Been a few times and found it really enjoyable, though wasnt there really to make money but more to have a laugh with mates.
Must admit it can feel slightly intimidating the first time and you feel a bit unsure how to act.
All in all a good experiance
Def go for the large sunglasses and comedy wig
Casino poker is less intimidating and of a lower quality than you might expect. I would suggest you make sure the game is dealer dealt and is a low buy-in multi-table freezeout so your financial liability is capped. Assuming your local casino has a card room, they should have games around the £20 mark.
Unless you move into the realm of big bucks, expect to start with a small amount of chips whilst the blinds rise rapidly, so adapt your game accordingly.
I'd also like to corroborate what the other guys have said - you'll find unless you have large sunglasses or a strange hat, you will look most peculiar.
I've only ever been to the sorts of casinos you have in the middle of town centres - Gala, Circus etc we had a new one open this year called Alea and I thought it was going to be posh and like being in a James Bond movie - but it turns out it was just full of drunken blokes after they'd been on the lash and the pubs had shut.
1) Set yourself a limit before you go in and leave your bank card at home.
2) Easier to read people when playing live (unless you're playing a drunk person lol)
3) Why not? You can always take them off if you feel too silly.
Living in the badlands of Suffolk, casino's are not on my doorstep. So instead, I've found a local pub that holds a poker night. £6 to enter and between 20 and 30 players. It was great to play live poker and the players knew I was a newbie and even hepled me and corrected a few mistakes, such as when it was checked round to me and I went to fold, they said you can check if you want,so I did. The best bit that if you lose all your chips, at half time every one gets another 1500 chips so you get a second bite of the cherry, even if you are up against some bigger stacks then. I even won a side table after I'd lost in the main game. Left £2 in profit!!!! Never going to make big bucks playing but it's 2-3 hours poker and none of the other temptations of a casino!!!!! Wigs and sunglasses are not mandatory!!
